Big enough to put the wires through but not too big
Most of the answers to guitar building questions are common sense answers and it really doesn't matter.

You rout the pickup routs so that the walls are nice and close to the pickup. Than you take a really long drill bit and drill down from the neck pocket. This will make a hole connecting the pickup routs so you can pass the wires through. Than you drill a hole from the bridge pickup rout into the control cavity rout. Of course you rout your control cavity from the rear of the guitar ala PRS and gibson.
If your guitar allows it it may be possiable to drill the hole from the neck pickup directly into the control cavity rout. Just go to your local Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a really long drill bit.
thanks...thats what i was thinking, but i wasnt sure if there was any other ways...but that sounds good...thanks again
ive got one more question....how big should the diameter of the drill bit be?

I was wondering how jackson can route their guitars so that they dont need a pick guard to cover up the wires of the electronics. im making a guitar and its one solid piece and a bolt on neck, and im at the routing stage, and i dont want to have a pickguard....so any tips or advice would be very much appreciated.
