I think it's great looking I personaly would love to own that guitar

I got the LGX-SA and the wood is fine around the holes, plays and sounds great for a bolt on neck, sustains real well. They make the bevel long, like 3/4" so it's a nice gentle slope for the string and I guess this is the reason why it doesn't kill the wood
-
Your other choice is not to use them at all, thats how my godin is set-up, they just drill the holes and bevel the front

Hi all,
Has anyone tried to install a speedloader into a body originally setup for an OFR? If so please let me know of any tips, tricks or things I should look out for.
Thanks,
Sam

Well, Ol' Ed is selling it, so probably like $6,000
you talking about Ed Roman? why is he hated? i check out his website, but i have no idea why no one likes him, enlighten me please
Lee,
Where to begin with Ed, well he is slightly opinionated to say the least but several rumors out and about say that his handmade guitars are not made by him and are really machine made. This is not normally a bad thing but he states how much he hates machine made uitars at handmade prices and it sounds like he is doing it himself. I delt with Ed once many years ago when he was still located in Conn. about an hour from my house here in NJ. He was ok to deal with but he doesn't believe in the saying "the customer is always right" so when I wanted ordered my explorer he added some things that I told him I didn't want like certain body reliefs, because I already put a down payment on it I picked it up half complete and finished it myself.

are you going to add a veneer to the head? If so you can add some wood to increase the headstock size you want and as long as you keep the tuning machines on the main section and just use the added word for decoration that should work fine. If you venner the headstock you would never see the joint from the front.

yeah, hopefully it will work. I've been downloading pics of broad axes all yesterday to find the perfect shape. I got some cool ideas.
-
Hi Reaper,
I'm not gooing to copy that exact shape like the kramer so the stepped part where the blade is wll look more like a real broad axe and the entire body will be stepped don smooth like a S540
-
Very cool guys, thanks. I can't afford to by an original Kramer so I'm going to make one but I was thinking of using the carvin neck-thru blank as a foundation.
-
Hi All,
Besides the old Kramer models made for Gene Simmons, who else has made a guitar shaped like an axe? I spotted one the other day in a Cheech and Chong movie, the Corsican Brothers. Basically I'm trying to find as much pictures as possible so I can build one from scratch but I need as many pics as possible to figure out the right dimesions and overall size.

Hi All,
Anyone ever try or even here of those fancy push button 5-way pick-up selector switches? If so are they any good?
Thanks,
Sam

I love explorers too. The last one I bought was a late 70's hondo Revival 2 on ebay for $80. The guitar had a mangled headstock break, no bridge, and it was completely disassemabled but it is a set neck, and solid swamp ash body which is factory stained to look like white limba. I get this guitar home, take apart the headstock, clean the parts, re-glue it with tite bond 2, re-lacquer the face black and I found a cool, full contact MIJ tremolo on ebay for $25 bucks, dropped that in, solid brass so it has killer sustain and this thing sounds incredible. It has the orignal grover tuners and either really good dimarzio copies or the real thing. All I needed was a new input jack, 3-way and some wire, for about $115 I have a killer guitar.

When you say "pull towards you" do you mean with theblade angled towards the direction you are pulling or should I`just use the razor as a scraper?
-
Hi all,
I just got done spraying my neck and now I need to remove the lacquer from the frets. This is a new warmoth neck and according to them the frets have already been leveled but because I got the neck with a birdseye maple board, I needed to spray that too. Now that I'm done spraying it how doe I clean the frets up, what is the best way of doing it and what tools do I need.
Thanks,
Sam

Would it be ok to mix cap values between the 2 pick-ups?
-
Here's the current one I'm using looks like
-
It worked before some what ok when I was running through a 5-way rotary switch but the tone rolloff was never great. I decided to change out to a LP 3-way for ease of use. I've even changed the 3-way to see if that makes a difference but it doesn't
-
Hi All,
Here's what I've done:
Replaced both the volume and ton pots on that humbucker with brand new ones
Replaced both caps with brand new ones, both .47
Rewired the guitar completely.
No change but here's my thought, the neck pick-up is a SD pearly gates model while the bridge is a SD dimebucker. The bridge is much hotter then the neck, could it be that I require a different value cap for the bridge because it is so much hotter?
Thanks,
Sam
-
yep, 2 times and I even rewired it. Same problem with a different schematic so the issue must be the hardware but where do I start?
-
Hi All,
I have a custom made explorer running two SD humbuckers wired like a les paul. The problem is the tone on the bridge pick up is acting like another volume but I don't have the same problem in the neck postion. The 2 way is a right angle switcraft and the pots are gibson long shaft. Any idea what the problem might be?
Thanks,
Sam

The brass should work fine even in maple if you drill the correct size pilot hole and make sure it's straight.
-
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the info, I just ordered some.
Thanks,
Sam
-
That looks like them but the ones i've seen are flutted and they are pressed in plus glued. I didn't see anything at Woodcraft, what are they under?
-
Does anyone know where I can get neck joint machine bolts and barrel nuts to attcha a neck to a body? McInturf uses them I think.
Thanks,
Sam

Well considering I'm probably one of the biggest explorer fans in the world I think it looks incredible and your workmenship is fantastic!!!!! The paint looks great, not my style but none the less it came out perfect. I like the idea of the neck/body attachment, it gives me some ideas
