  1. The fundamental may have nodes at those points (for a given length of string and pickup placement) but the harmonics behind them have different nodal points. As you get towards the end point, such as the bridge, the pickup can sense more of these complex harmonic vibrations...where as further away such as on a neck pickup there is a far more powerful fundamental content resulting in a smoother tone.

But the point is still this:

It's a waste of time trying to calculate the perfect node.

Clearly, as you move up and down the string, the pickup will capture a different set of vibrations. But to say that the pickup "must be in position X to capture the tone of that node" is just silly.

    Why?

Because as soon as you fret a string, the node moves.

If you make two identical guitars, one 22 fret and one 24, and place the neck pickup at the base of the neck, obviously there will be a minute difference in sound. The 22 fretters "octave node" should be right above the pickup, while the 24 fretters "octave node is before the pickup. As soon as you fret a note, the 22 fretters node is now being pushed passed the pickup, while the 24 fretters is being pushed onto the pickup.

Not that any of this really matters, as the pickups field isn't that narrow anyway...

    Voodoo.

  2. Maybe it is supposed to be like this:

    "Hi,

I just bought a Jackson Charvel Guitar body which is front routed with an HSH route. It has no neck as I was planning / am planning to buy a new neck for it. It said online / ebay where I bought it that it was a 25 1/2" scale guitar with standard 2 1/4" route. I think they maybe meant 2 3/16" route after I spoke with the owner via the phone. Either way. I'm wanting to put a new neck on it, but I'm after a Jackson neck that is 24 frets instead of 22 like the neck that was on it? Shouldn't it work as long as the scale is correct and all other things are equal? I don't want to buy the neck and then find out it won't work? I thought as long as the scale works and the neck pocket size is the same it should work? Any help would be most appreciated..

    Thanks

    Tim"

    Works better, I guess...

  3. This might be unnecessary to note, but make sure to add in a block of wood in the neck joint to run the router bit along, since your template doesn't have one.

im not sure what you mean but this is what im going to route like. its going to be set neck :D

He just wants to make sure that you don't route the neck pocket through the whole thickness of the body...

Right now your template has no allowance for the wood that should be left at the bottom.

That's what the block would be for; stopping you from routing the whole thing.

  4. I agree Doug.

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with Patrick Sims and his painting business.

He seemed to believe in the "I'm so busy, and my work is so great, that you just have to deal with not knowing when you are getting your guitar back" approach to business.

    It's very simple.

If you know that it will take a long time to get your merchandise out, specify that.

You don't have to tell people that it's because you're disorganized, but at least they'll know it might be a while.

And personally I don't care about the whining, saying "I'm so busy! I work in the shop from dawn till dusk. I just don't have time spending hours on the phone and e-mail"....

Should have thought about that before starting a business.

A huge part of a business is the customer, and customer service. If you don't have the latter, sooner or later you won't have the former....

  5. Well, if you're going "Fender style", then you don't really need an angle.

All you need to do, is make the neck pocket the appropriate depth, and that's how you control the bridge/neck interaction.

Check out a Strat when you have a chance...

But ultimately, no cuts or major decisions should be made without having the parts on-hand.

    So, so important!

  6. The type is just too tight, too squeezed together.

    Also, Why "RGR"?

I see that you capitalized the "R" in "GuitaR", so I guess that's where the 2nd "R" in "RGR" comes from.

    But why?

The "RGR" logo works, but it's based on something illogical...

    R GuitaRs.

The bird itself is nice, and looks great.

    Based on some ones tattoo?
