Sorry to throw up another post so soon, but I'm deeply immersed in my project, and there's no turning back!

I've been looking for a good place online to buy a pre-slotted nut (preferably bone). The only places I've found only sell blanks or have obscene prices! Does anyone know of a good place to buy one? Also, is it important to find one that fits the radius of my fingerboard? I was wondering, since I haven't found a place that lists a radius for its nuts.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Does anyone else know where I could find veneer the could serve that purpose? I was hoping to find some for a bit less than the Warmoth price. Thanks!

What is used to create the effect of a black outline between the top and body of a guitar? Also, does anybody know where one would buy such a thing? Here's an example:

I was thinking the guitar would look like a solid body, but I would carve out sections of the body wood a little on each side (solid wood would still run down the center). I was planning on using that aerosol nitro lacquer from Guitar ReRanch.

I'm a little confused about the details of the process you described in your tutorial. How much would I sand before applying Hot Stuff, how would I apply the Hot Stuff, and how much would I sand afterward? Also, as funkle said, would it work to apply the Hot Stuff, then just clearcoat with nitro from there? Thank you soooo much!

Well, its clear that I'm a moron. I've had a fair amount of finishing experience, but none in the field of guitars. And judging by what you guys have said, I'm excited to see how the wood will come out. When I called it "dull" I definitely wasn't refering to the look in the pic!! I've been fascinated with the woods I've seen at buzzsaw and, having never bought wood online, it was a bit of a shock to see the wood in real life. I would DEFINITELY like to retract my statement. I felt like I had been decieved, but obviously Im an idiot. Thanks for setting me straight!

So, as far as technique, I was planning on following the finishing tutorial at Guitar ReRanch. I was going to use grain filler for a start, as recommended. What I'm really looking for it the right stain. On a test piece I tried a little bit of Miniwax Golden Oak, which generally isn't a very dark finish, but it made the wood come out DARK brown, and it didn't seem to enhance the grain much.

I'm looking for a website where I can purchase VERY nice figured woods (preferably maple) for a guitar top, but I want a site where I can see the EXACT piece of wood that I am buying. I've tried ebay, and I just ended up with some dull piece of spalted maple that some guy soaked in water before taking the picture and neglected to mention it (buzzsaw international hardwood- I wouldn't recommend this guy!). So.... any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Hello everyone! This is my first real guitar finishing job, and I'm looking for a good budget finish that will look real- you know, very shiny and durable, but relatively non toxic and hopefully easy to apply. I have a large shop with a million woodworking tools, but as far as finishing all I have is a low quality compressor and a can of miniwax polyurethane. Does anyone have any suggestions? Ok. I don't know if what I want to do is possible, but I'm curious to know if anyone has any thoughts on the subject. I recently glued a 1/4" Paduk top over the headstock of the maple bass neck I am making. I now need some way to stain the paduk top without touching the maple. Any ideas? I was thinking a strip of tape over the maple might work, but the stain would probably bleed through (ideally I would be able to do this without purchasing any type of sealer!). Looks great. What finishing process did you use on the cocobolo, by the way? I've had very wierd problems while finishing cocobolo.

Yeah, a bandsaw is key. You'll also need a dremel router and a stationary router. Once you have those there are about a million specialty tools you could get into if you wanted.
