  1. Hi!

I had asked about grounding a hollowbody, since there's no isolated electronics compartment to cover in copper tape. bluespresence told me to use a Belden Cable, but I was wondering if I have the shielded cable from Stewmac if that would be substantial, or if I could purchase some sort of tubing through which to run them?

    Thanks a lot!

  2. Hi!

I know there are millions of posts on string height, but I couldn't find one that answered my question. Just humor me. Is there a general rule for string height at the nut, and is there a way to install the nut at the correct height without stringing up? (i.e. distance from fretboard to bottom of low and high E slots, etc.)

    Thanks a lot

  3. Yeah, I'm a tele fanatic, so I would have to go with that. You probably know this already, but the tele is geared toward a little bit more of a twangier sound than the strat. In my opinion, the sound of the thinline tele is godlike, and if you could find a way to simulate or enhance that sound it would be impressive. I'm a huge fan of thinlines. Good luck with your project!

  4. Hi!

If you're experienced, go ahead and ignore me, but if you're feeling unsure, you might want to try a semihollowbody. The advantage of that is you can carve out the inside of a solid piece of wood rather than having to worry about bracing. You can just leave a thin border around the edges, and a center block of wood running the length of the body right down the middle, similar to a neck thru. Then you just glue on the top. In my opinion they are easier to make, and I prefer the style because it's light and cool like a hollowbody but shares some of the tonal qualities of a solid body.

  5. Hi!

I was wondering how wide the center block of wood on my semihollowbody should be. If I were to make it wide enough to completely enclose the pickups and allow the tuneomatic bridge to be bolted in, it would need to be 3 1/2". That just seemed a little wide, and I was wondering what most people do. Should I just make it around 2" and have the pickup cavities hang out over the sides a little bit? Does anyone have any idea what Im talking about? :D

    Thanks a lot !

  6. Hi! This is probably a dumb question, but what does one generally do about grounding on a hollowbody? I know the procedure on an electric is to cover the electronics compartment in copper shielding tape, but obviously there's no compartment on a hollowbody!

I'm making one by carving out the inside of a solid piece, so would it be wise to leave a thin wall surrounding the electronics to create an isolated compartment? Has anyone tried that sort of thing? Thanks a lot!

  7. has anyone ever heard of a butt joint used on a neck body joint (the kind where the fretboard hangs over the top), or would that snap like a twig? Do you have to use a dove tail? Im kinda in a tough spot, with the truss rod already glued in and the neck completely assembled. What about a dowel joint?

  8. Hi everyone!

How do you guys check the depth of your fret slots after radiusing and deeping to make sure that they're not too shallow? Does it matter if they're extra deep as long as it doesn't structurally weaken the truss rod mechanism?

I'm about to glue on binding, and of course then there's no turning back. any tips? Should I put in the fretwire before I glue on the binding?

Thanks a lot! Happy new year (im a little late, but it is my first post of the year!)
