  1. Perfect that is exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks for your help
  2. Hi, I am trying to find a wiring digram for some old EMG SG/LG pickups. I have found the diagram for the newer solderless version on their site but this involves a circuit board and is a fair amount more complicated. All it consists of is the 2 pickups, Tone/Vol/Vol pots and a 9V battery connecter. I have done a fair bit of soldering in the past I just don't really know how its meant to go together as a circuit. I also have another question, does anyone know where I can find a circuit for a low battery LED. Only one I've found so far I know will work great but is quite expensive. http://www.east-uk.com/index.php/all-products/bli-01.html Cheers, Travis
  3. Hey guys, Sorry for the lack of activity here. As always life has been crazy... I have the bass all sanded and masked now: And this is the design I was looking at going for (I have gotten black hardware for it now too). My dad is going to be doing the airbrushing but I need some info on what paints etc will be best. I know I need a primer and I am guessing it should be white (as the grey might show through?) any suggestions on brands/types? Also for the main finish my step dad has acrylic paints would they be ok or would automotive be better? Thanks, Travis
  4. Update In my search for glue's I stumbled across this stuff and I thought I would give it a go as it seemed to tick all the boxes. The glue is about as thin as water so it went nicley right through the crack. I ended up bracing it apart a little with a maple off cut I had lying around. After: I still have to sand it down but its getting late here, so I will do it tomorrow.
  5. Would I just be scoring up the surface enough so that the glue sticks nicley or? Also do you think the crack will be subtle enough that I can go for a natural or stain?
  6. What sort of glue would be best to use with that method?
  7. Raising the grain? sorry if that is a stupid question but I have never gotten to the finishing stage before.
  8. UPDATE - Long Overdue All the paint is gone One of the trickiest parts so far Ok, So I know it has been a very long time since my last update but life/English weather has gotten in the way. I intend to be back on this build 100% now and my target is to definitely have it done before Christmas (hopefully earlier). The next thing I am looking at is fixing the crack and I think I am going to go with the brace method, haven't decided what glue yet but I will work it out. My next question is about sanding, what is the sand procedure to prepare for painting? i.e what grits etc Cheers, Travis
  9. I was also thinking of the application for solo bass and I play in a metal band so its not always that easy to here you're self over everyone else to tune down.
  10. UPDATE: 06-06-2010 Got some sanding done on the neck:
  11. UPDATE: I don't know if I mentioned but I have been thinking about changing this bass to a five string (EADGC). Anyways, I decided to go ahead with it and I ordered some hardware which just arrived. Bridge (Schaller) D-Tuner (Hipshot/Gotoh
  12. Sanding - (02-06-2010): Still to go: Gettin Close!
  13. Please replace the word 'little' with the word 'lot'. Truing up a piece with a properly tuned plane is a great feeling but it does take a while to get the hang of it. I've been known to throw one across the shop after completely f'ing up a piece. Cheers Buter ''Just a little more to remove on this side so 2 light passes.... ah SHHHH*T'' But yeh, not much beats cleaning up a rough piece of timber with a good old Stanley Ok lol, I'll practice until I am good enough!
  14. Fretboard arrived: The next step is to plane down the neck and then I can get started cutting stuff up. Never used a hand plane before so I will have to practice a little first.
  15. Ok, so I have a little update: I am thinking of going for a paint finish rather, as the bass would look better in general with it. I still need to repair the crack obviously, but it doesn't have to be quite as covert because you won't see it under the paint. It has been raining a lot recently so I haven't had time to work on it but the sun is out today so I am about to go get some work done!
  16. I just bought a broken one, I don't break them either lol
  17. It is fairly brutal, Thanks for the possible solutions. I had a little pull on it and while it opened up ever so slightly, it would take a lot to open it up wide. Also would that risk further damage? Do you think a re-paint is more of a viable solution? Because it would be hard for me, but not impossible to pull off.
  18. UPDATE: 22-04-2010 Meant to put this up the other day but my internet has been down, so here is a little progress =D
  19. OK got ya some pics, took them yesterday but totally forgot to upload them These are the best I could do, now that I have had a closer look at it I don't think its actually too bad. Its pretty long but not deep at all.
  20. I think the crack is just cosmetic although is still about 1-2m deep. It goes from that pot at the front all the way around to the cavity at the back. It seems that someone dropped it really hard on the bottom edge to cause it, as far as I can tell. The reason I was going for natural finish is because while my step dad has air brushing kit, we don't have a decent area to spray in. Also I always prefer natural finishes over paint, especially when its a nice piece of wood.
  21. So here is what I have done so far: I also found the serial under the bridge and through the Warwick serial search found that it was completed on the 28th of August 2001. Serial No.: H-086851-01 Article Code: 1264026100GDFMHFWW Produced: 28/08/2001 Info: Streamer Stage I, 4-string 3-Tone Sunburst finish Flamed Maple AA body Flamed Maple neck Gold hardware
  22. Hey guys, I know its been a long time since I posted (if any of you actually remember that) but I am still at it. My bass build is just waiting on a fretboard before I start posting progress on it again. In the mean time I have bought a Warwick Streamer that is in need of some attention: The obvious issue is the finish although there is this crack as well: My plan is to strip it back to the wood, repair the crack as best as I can (although I think it will still be visible) and do a natural oil finish, as close to the way that Warwick would do it. Advice? If anyone has any tips/ideas on the finish and repair, I would love to hear them =D Cheers, Travis
