I dont really understand what he did wrong.
I watched the vid nd thought it was actually quiet a good band but the whole satanist thing is a bit sad lol (religeon-o dear)
its not like you can understand what the guy was actually singing/screaming anyway

i say get one of these. i played one in a shop and it was beautiful! and the pickups are quite good in my opinion
-
that is a nice grain on the neck on the guitar on the right. looks really nice and flowing!
-
that headstock is such a good shape! look forward to seeing it finished!

i really dont like LPs, i find the shape extremely boring, i also beleive it is one of the most overrated guitars ever made.
i am kind of biased though seeing as i dont like les pauls. in fact i dont really like singlecuts at all. the only single cut design which looks right is the telecaster
i would definitely go for a top end ibanez if i had the choice between the 2

Hey man.
Im selling a Vintage Les Paul Copy, otherwise known as a V100.
Its Pre-wilko hardware, but i have updated the hardware, to a gorgeous all black ensamble.
Im looking for around £120 for it.
Oh yeah, and it no llonger has those horrid gold pick-up covers
wow ive never known of anyone else who owns a vintage. lol
mines a VS6 but im not sellin it

For a guitar that was developed in the '40s and based off the classic flat-top acoustic shape, I think it's done very well.
i agree, either its because they got it spot on first try or its because theyve had so long to perfect it. either way its a nice guitar
-
Ok for the neck and hardware, i have bought a cheap ibanez JEM copy with a damaged body from ebay. it should do very nicely.
i will post a pic of it when it arrives. ill get back to sanding then

Im not the kind of person who likes teles or infact any fender. i really find the tele shape very boring and the headstock to bejust plain weird. I prefer gitars more geared towards heavy metal such as ESP's or Jacksons. but the other day i played a Tele in a guitar shop. I was really surprised by how nice it was. It played like a dream. Also i wasn't expecting much in the way of a good overdriven sound. This thing really surprised me, as much as i want to dislike them i am seriously considering saving up for one.

i dont really know what type of wood it is. it seems strong enough to make a guitar with but it is made of several layers. it came from a leftover part of wood from a comany that makes high security doors so i would imagine its quite tough but apart from that i have no idea what type of wood it is. i realy dont know what kind of sound it will have or how much sustain.
-
Ok. ive finally started on my project. Do not expect anything special because the quality of wood is very poor. however. this is mainly because i want to find out if i am up to making guitars. if this does work then i will replace the body with one made of a good quality wood.
the shape is just a flying V of my own design.
i have made a (extremely poor) image to show how i want the final thing to look vaguely like. i have not included bridge and pickups as i will be using whatever i can get my hands on
ive made the body for now. using a circular say and a jigsaw. the next thing im going 2 do is beveling the body
for the scratch plate im gonna use checkerplate.
sorry about the poor quality pictures. i took them with a webcam

money isnt really a problem,i went to a local furniture maker, and i bought a piece of maple that was big enough for 2 guitar bodies for only...£16
it was the exact thickness that i needed aswell lol
so have you got a design?
oh,and you can find cheap guitars at car boot sales,or ebay, were you can have a neck and electronics aswell..and a body for another project
im gonna try to get hold of some wood which would be good for a first guitar- not ver expensive incase i screw up
and im either gonna make an explorer or a design of my own
-
i thought that as it is a piano then it would have a very nice tone to the wood but im not sure if the wood would be very thick because pianos are acoustic and therefore hollow so i dont know
i will check it out
-
what do you mean by "bought a new lead..." is that the power cord?
the lead which goes from guitar to amp- i think it has a specific name just cant think of it
-
thanks for the replys.
WOW the freecycle thing is amazing!!!!!!
the day i was accepted as a member there, i log on and theres adverts for a large wardrobe- not sure how thick the wood is though
AND woodworking tools
FREE
edit- oh no wait, those arent the newest messages, someones probably already got them
edit2- does anyone know what wood pianos are usually made of- someones got a broken one on freecycle

thanks i iwll take that into consideration. i was thinking of getting it from a hardware shop like B&Q but this seems like a better option as there wil be more variety in wood and at better prices.
i dont mind the extra work gone into it- will just give me more satisfaction when/if it is made

yep, my marshall 8200 is having problems again. this time it cuts out. i think ive read that its due to the fx loop or a bad input. i tryed to do a search on this site but it seems to be down. anywho i was at a buddys place jammin and i noticed that at any voulme the sound will cut out at times or the distortion will weaken. another thing ive notcied is that it manily happens when i pcik really hard but since its the way i normaly pick its a huge inconvinance. anyone have any ideas?
ignore me if you think this may be a stupid obvious answer, but i had this problam a while ago, just so happens to be a marshall but that was nothing to do with the problem. i would get the sound wekening with hard picks and sometimes cutting out.
to cut a long story short, i bought a new lead and the problem was fixed.
hope its something simple with yours,(not a major fault)
-
wow that is an expensive neck lol
i do really like the look of ebony fretboards but i may just get a rosewood one from ebay (im willing to risk it)
was the neck you bought off ebay a bolt on or a through body one?
edit- thanks for the advice- ive applied for an account on freecycle
hopefully someone will have some spare wood
-
i wanted to use a cheap material if possible free - old table because as its my first project i dont want to ruin extremely expensive wood. maybe if i find out im a natural then i will spend a hell of a lot in making the guitar of my dreams.
but if i get round to this its just a tester so basically no massive losses if it goes horribly wrong.
I'm making one right now from an old table!
Here's the thread if you are interested
If you are just making the body, then its even less risk, the neck is the most crucial stucturally.
Do you know what wood the table is made of? Some woods are better suited for guitar making than others.
Good luck!
EDIT: What they said too! they beat me to it
wow i hope mine may turn out as good as yours.
and i dont have any specific table in mind, it was just an idea of how to get some wood cheap. i looked in the loft today and the only wood i could see that looked suitable was underneath sveral things and being used as a floor to cover up that fluffy loft/attic stuff. also i thought of an old tabletop we had lying around outside, went to have a look at it and it is one of the most rotted peices of wood ive ever seen.
this means i may have to buy some wood. only problem is i have no money lol.
dont know how im planning to buy a neck
Oh yeah, can you buy complete through necks with a fretboard and headstock already on them or can you only buy replacement bolt on necks?
EDIT- also is the wood used in doors suitable?
-
hi have been lookin through this forum last couple of days and it made me want to build my own guitar.
but i dont want to spend loads of money on wood. would i be able to make a guitar out of an old table?
planning on buying a neck.
if i go ahead with my project i will post on this forum so u can all laugh at my pathetic effort
