hmmm where to begin?
can this be done....yes
has it been done....yes
will it be done again .....yes
am i doing it....yes
why cause we can (huge access to wood)
problems building ....what problems when you have a 5 axis cnc (though only 3 are used)
total glue used?....less than most people drip on the floor
does it sound or sustain better.....who knows its not finished
but i can say its tap tone is incredible. better than a bolt on body or a neck thru (that depends)
is this topic worth discussion.......id say by the responces no
so why did i post......im bored and retarted

Try Exotic woods
http://exoticwoods.com/home.php
you'll pay out the ass but Gulab has everything and then some
-
actually bluebird referd to the top i was going to use (flamed birdseye)
but i did not want to take a chance on destroying it. and i have a few of these tops
so the choice was obvious. now that i have the color down ill do more
maybe a Tele twin? but this should be done within the next month
thanks for the comments
p.s. its not even orange peel yet its only two light coats to seal the top
what you see may still be the grain. though i dont see it in person
-
finaly some progress on this
its my first sand back attemt and i think i did ok (need Draks opinion)
the quilted top has been seen before and its mated to a one peice swamp ash back
total body weight 2 pounds 14 ounces
the top coats are not done whats there is to seal the color before the burst

this should be one sweet super strat

Jackson did and now fender owns the sharkfin inlay neck (note how the few licensed companies can legally produce it)
Ibanez found that out the hard way (remember their original sharkies?)
thats why they had to switch to the double cut design
dont get me wrong Perry's W.O.M.D is unique and Perry you know i highly respect your work and talent. and i agree its just not worth the time and money to go after this one.
the reason people can sell just the inlays is just that they are not installed on a neck
lets face it what ground would Jackson have if they were installed on a humidor or a hockey stick(none)its not a guitar
its not that they own the actual inlay but like their headstock design it says Jackson.
a strat body can me massed produced but not the headstock (who knows why). yet an RR can't be legally done without a mod (Alexi model ESP) yet Kramer did it. how about the Charvel Star? ESP again
but without a mod (the 80's)
if someone did not know Perry and seen that guitar they would think its still awsome and yes Perry would lose out which is a shame. but the fact is its still a cheap copy those on this post have seen the original and it did not take long to find a cheap imitation. the details are in the artist and his vision and no matter what Perry knows what he has done and no one can take that from him period.
one hell of a luthier and one hell of a talent. so Perry if i may say so(F@#K that Asshole wanabee)

not to be the d@#k the spoils all the fun but wouldn't sharks tooth inlays fall into this category?

an Edge pro is a perfectly good trem better or worse than a floyd thats a personal preference
in reality they are about equal. being fulcrum trems they have about the same feel
both remain in tune equally. the floyd has a hardened base plate the edge has hardened inserts like the schaller floyds. me i prefer schallers but would not change a edge just for that reason
its just not justifiable money wise
as far as f-spaced the answer is yes but i use standard spaced strait up (non angled) and i doubt you could hear the difference. I'm just retarded so its all the same to me

What! No Jeff Beck!!!
WOW!!!!!!!!!! im the only guy other than Pete
-
to add on Fryovanis comment what does it smell like
it looks to light in color to be bloodwood but that could be the pic
bloodwood has an almost Cinnamon like smell and very sweet
-
if that was laying in my back yard it woud be pine
thats looking at the bark and color but its not my yard
although in that pic i dont see any sap and it has leaves not needles so its not that

Basswood=Poop
the the major players in building use it for cost effectiveness
and workability morethan for tone
we have not sold a Basswood body in eons and the blanks we have just collect dust and waste space
and poplar....please green is only good for the environment

I did suggest playing with pot values in my first post. For reference i have an overly bright guitar made from heavy ash with an overwound P-90 in it and i find that a 300k pot with 0.047uf capacitor worked wonders and made a really versatile guitar out of something that was far too bright.
My Bad.....Sorry

google "Mike Learn"
-
My maple body/neck with maple board sounds awsome to me and it has a Duncan jb in the bridge
it has not been suggested yet so my 2 cents would be lower pot values. you dint say what you have in there but as its a strat id guess 250k? see if you can find a 100k such as this
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=023-560
if by chance they are 500k than try 250 k ones
and for a couple buck seems a cheaper test than a pickup swap
if your really skilled you could try bone inserts in the saddles but thats a lot of work
and id buy that Floyd from you before id let you kill it
-
i always use a very slight and i do mean slight pitch shift to fatten things up a bit on
-
No Problem!
-
Schaller made the OFR's and many Jackson trems. and im sure some others
the difference between them is the Floyd has a hardened steel baseplate
Schaller's have a cast base with hardened inserts
Ibanez also used hardened inserts on most of their trems (Edge/pro/pro 2) that i know of (maybe more)
and they all used hardened post's
I dont know about the Kahler's but i would hope they used them as well
i have the Mighty Might but wont use it as a trem as it never holds its tune
but its not just the inserts/post's, its the saddles they bind up on each other.
the inserts suck and it has horrible post's to boot. plus the machining is junk at best
bottom line is a you get what you pay for.......$50 dont expect much
a Trem Setter is always a plus
-
Yes its possible
but you may also destroy it
