Ok so I was thinking of doing a telecaster out of alder with a flamed maple front and a flamed maple back
the place I was buying my flamed maple top from says that it is 6/15" thick. Times that by 2 and that makes 12/15" of an inch thick worth of maple. and then I was planning on buying 1" thick alder. WHich makes my telecaster 27/15" which equals 1.8" thick when a body should be about 1.75" thick.
Another option for me would be to get another thinner set of maple top. but I havent found any that has been in my price range. the one im getting is about 25 dollars and the fugure is fine. can someone point me to some thinner cheaper flamed maple tops?
Oh and lets say I got some flamed maple that was like 3/15" thick and times that by 2 and add the 1" alder. That would make my body 1.4" thick. which is thinner then the average telecaster. Would it be hard to avoid the obvious problems of running through the wood because of pickup holes and all? Basically is it possible to make it that thin, and is it easy?
Who came up with 15th's as a measurement (are you the great Litchfeild)?

how does the fret switch work without afecting pickup noise/Emi?
-
do you know how to solder?and do you know what tining is? if so read on
do everything Batfink said and try this
tin the noose just above the ball on your strings it will keep them from slipping
you could also try fender bullets as they have the bullet end instead of the ball

i have a 5 way switch that i tore apart and cut the tower off of
when i have the switch where i want i take the modified switch plate
and put it on my layout then mark the screw hole's then drill them and mount the
the plate and use that as a guide for my dremmel

how loose fitting was the channel?
if it is longer than the rod did you pu some kind of baker behind it to keep it from moving?
also don't use the sealant if that gets on you glue joints you'll have a problem
instead use a peice of foam weather strip... just a little peice will do
-
that looks awsome!!!!!!!!!!!
so how does all the glue sound?
-
i find...the flatter the better for me....but you do know about compound radiuses?
10" at the nut, around 16" at the bridge...the best of both worlds
Ahh that good old 10-16. I would totaly suck without it

Down Draft Table
in Tools and Shop Chat
Posted · Edited by spazzyone
we have some downdraft tables at the shop
they just collect dust.......as in we dont even bother with them
but if you do build one get a roll of drawer liner for a tool box like this
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=prod...&lpage=none
to pad your top. your work wont move on it and the holes will let the dust thru
its what i used to use on my bench for sanding now i use wet suit material as it lasts longer
but it does not have any holes in it
