Finished! The brighter parts in the wood didnt turn out as dark as i had hoped, but I did only do 2 coats of oil. I might take it down at a later time and do an additional coat, but i'm loving the top half of the guitar, all the way down to the selector. Here's a pic of the back!

and here's one before i dropped in the humbucker and rewired it

dressed the trem cav with some adhesive rubber, and painted up the input jack route with a light flat black color, as the bare wood was downright hideous there.

Some of you may remember I used to post here back about 2 - 3 years ago?, Anywhom, at the time I was too unsure of how to work on guitars to finish any projects, but I've read a ton up on guitars and what not, finally decided to give a whack at restoring my Ibanez S540-r from 1988! I figured it might as well be trash but after searching the value of these on Ebay they come up with a nice price tag still, regardless I'm doing this for the knowledge and also because this guitar has served me well.

Here's the pics of the wood grain, just after sanding it off. This picture the woodgrain is WET due to mineral spirits cleaner. I used mineral spirits to clear away all the dust for the finishing process.

I left the cavities painted as I believe the paint is conductive in some manner? I figured the pickups will be there and it will be covered, so no real loss from the look of the new finish right?

All that's left to do before moving onto the finishing stage is that Barrel Jack route... It's darn pesky too!

Finish will be done with Tung Oil, as I understand this finishing process more so than any others I've read about. Also I like the grains in the mahogany, (aside from that third piece and how light it is), so I'm gonna definitely keep them visual.

Any comments/input/criticism, or Feedback would greatly be appreciated!

I also keep allen holders on my headstock, i like it this way mainly because i have a lot of friends who like to try and mess with my tuning.. so when they come over i just remove the allens and it stays how i want it haha.

Now i can continue my project

I picked up some Sigmarine Alkyd paint,

It's pre-thinned and all. I have 2 gallons that i picked up for free.

I was wondering which (if any) primer and sealer would be the best to use with this kind of paint, I read another topic from a forum search where a guy used a Rustoleum primer and when he sprayed the Alkyd on it looked terrible.

Any help is appreciated

I think this will be just fine though.

Okay so the gorilla glue held the neck together seemlessly.

I can barely tell there was even a crack there anymore.

After only 2 hours of drying I am pulling on this thing as hard as i can and have no flex whatsoever. I put my tuners back in, sanded off the extra glue cleaned up the frets and threw my locking nut back on.

I need a new set of strings before i can get this bad boy setup.

...now lets hope that fret buzz finally disappears.

Try puttin a glob of wood glue on the screw and putting it back into the hole...

wait the proper drying time.. this should create new threads inside the hole.. still won't be the strongest though.

I figured the same.. that it won't hold very well.

the fretboard however is not the only thing holding it together... its got about 1/16th of an inch more of wood for the crack to travel through before it reaches the fret board.

any ideas on how to break the headstock off without ruining the fretboard?
