  1. Where i can i buy the material for the side dots? can i get it from a craft store or something?
  2. Im going to be routering the slot for my pickup soon and i was wondering how far away from the nut it should be. Im only putting in one so i want to make sure it gives a good sound. Im looking for a good classic rock sound. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and its a 24.625 scale. Ps: I've finished my neck (except the side dots) and it looks really good. I put in the tuning pegs just to see what it would look like and it looks really sleak. I dont have a picture yet but im going to try and get one.
  3. Im going to be routering out everything on the body this week so im going to have a few more questions later. the question i have now is how deep do you router for the pickup slot? its a P-90 dogear cover.
  4. k thanks. its bone so ill just use white glue.
  5. will white glue actually hold it though? i heard somewhere it will come off easy.
  6. Ive almost finished my neck and all i have left to do is drill holes for the tuning pegs, make a truss rod cover, and glue on the nut. What type of glue do i use for the nut? do i use a special adhesive or what?
  7. i just put in my truss rod today and i was wondering if i should cut the tapers up the neck now or after i glue on the fretboard?
  8. pine is crappy wood. It worps super quick and easy and as many have said it ships easy. I would suggest using it as a test piece.
  9. i finally got my truss rod (it came in a while ago but i just got a notice today. stupid post office) and i was wondering if anyone has a detailed plan on what to do know. its the hot rod from stewmac. i need to know stuff like dimensions of router and where to glue and stuff like that.
  10. ok i measured the angle today and i found out it was a 20 degree angle. Is this too much? there's not much i can do but im definetly making a volute.
  11. I ordered some stuff more then 2 weeks ago and its still not here. (i live in calgary, alberta, canada by the way) is it supposed to take this long? its really pissing me off because im waiting on the truss rod.
  12. i forgot to measure the angle today but im going to check tomorrow if i remember. Its made with scarf joints and im going to use a volute thing. Whats the biggest headstock angle you've heard of?
  13. Is it alright if i have a big headstock angle? i dont know exactly what it is but i know i cut mine a bit bigger then normal. will this effect anything in anyway?
  14. ok thankx. im building a brand new neck for the guitar im building (the neck is hondurous mahogony with a brazilian rosewood fretboard and the body is maple with a madagascar ebony veneer on the front and back) i just wasnt sure if 25.5 was the norm. im going to go with the 24.625 scale and hopefuly the higher frets arnt to small to play.
  15. the scale length i have for the guitar im building is 24.625 inches but i the guitar i bought a while ago (a washburn) has a scale length of 25.5 Should i make the scale length on the one im building 25.5 or should i go with 24.625? i havent cut anything yet but i just spent half an hour drawing out the lines and i went to compare the 2 and noticed the difference.
  16. anyone? i really need to know which one to get so i can order it as soon as possible.
  17. now which hot rod truss rod should i get? theres a few too choose from.
  18. Yup, Guitarfrenzy is right. Since the neck will be set in. You won't be able to access a heel adjustable truss rod. Also, I would plan on carving a volute in the neck. Since the recessed area for the truss rod nut and the angled headstock will be a huge loss to the rigidity of the headstock. alright. thanx for the help guys. i got really scared last night when i was thinking about what i need to do next with the guitar. so ya, thanx for the help.
  19. how would i be able to adjust it though? because if its only 18 inches there will still be the extra 2 1/4 inches of wood in the way.
  20. i noticed a flaw with the plan i have for the les paul. for the neck there's another 2.25 inches past the fret board that is used to bolt the neck onto the guitar. how would i install the truss rod with the extra 2.25 inches? ive already cut out the neck and the body so i can change anything now.
  21. now should i get the Slotted Nut Hot Rod, 1/8" Allen Nut Hot Rod, 1/4" Hex Nut Hot Rod, Spoke Nut Hot Rod? i found a good explanation at the stewmac site on how to put it in so i dont need help with that anymore. for now anyways.
  22. where can i get a detailed description of how to put in the hot rod?
  23. Im building a les paul junior, and im not sure what truss rod to get. should i get the hot rod or the traditional truss rud from stewmac? also what length should i get? the fret board is just over 18 inches. (im new at this) also, the design i have has only one pickup. should i stick with this or should i put in a second one?
  24. yup, drill a hole, and fill it in with pearl, abalone, plastic etc... thanx.
  25. I dont know if this is the right place to ask this question but what do you use for fret markers? is it just paint or do you drill a small hole and fill it with stuff? im thinking about not having any inlay on the fretboard and just using the fret markers for simplicicty reasons, and because it has more of a classical guitar look.
