  1. I'd say spray some WD40 into the slide switches also, there still might be a bad connection in there.

A nice mod would be to rewire it so that with both slide switches in the off-position, you get both pickups in series instead of silence. No extra parts needed.

Will do with the WD40! Good idea.

Is it a big rewiring job to have them in series or just 1 or 2 extra wires that I can attach without redoing everything? Since now that it works I probably should mess with history...too much haha.

    -Thanks

  2. yayyyy i just used WD40 on the pots and they work. Saved a lot of hassle.

The only thing I think this guitar was meant for tiny baby strings. I put on 11-50 flatwound and the G string on the 14fret hits the higher frets... ugh.... I tried adjusting the truss rod and it's not actually doing anything. I think maybe it's a fake truss rod??? I wonder....

Yeah that's pretty cool DarkAvenger! Glad you like it.

  3. Thanks Tim and SwedishLuthier!

Tim I'll definitely post it up in that section after I finish fixing it up :D

-SwedishLuthier I unfortunately do not have a voltage meter :D

So it seems that both pots are 500k. I'm going to run to my electronics store to pick two up. But I just opened it up and it looks messy... is this okay or should I rewire it? I mean you guys are way more experienced in wiring circuitry I don't know much at all. Maybe it's volume dropping because of how it's set up??

Like my brain is hurting when I look at the on/off switches with all those wires. Also I'm used to pickups with only 1 or 2 wires coming out not 4.

Also I wonder what value that Capacitor is? Since I'll probably destroy it when I try to remove it lol.

  4. Hey everyone, so I just picked up this sweeeeeet sounding vintage guitar a few days ago off kijiji. 60$ so worth it just for the gold foil pickups.

Honestly I love everything about the from the look to the play-ability and the neck pickup sounds like a million bucks. The bridge sounds a little thin but not bad.

    However there's three things.

1- When switching both pickups ON, there's a significant volume drop and it sounds a little funny I think it could be a phase issue? How can I solve this.

2- The volume pot only works on 10 and cuts out if you touch it. No biggie I'll just fix it.

3- it's missing the whammy bar. I'm wondering is there any replacements or DIY type things I can use/do.

I'm going to be opening the guitar up hopefully tomorrow to see the guts of it. So the main thing I need to figure out is the phase issue... also if you guys have any cool wiring mods or ideas I'm all ears!!

    Thanks a bunch!!

  5. About the thickness, the back model is the exact same as the other 2. I can get you the measurements. I wanted a bolt on neck to get a stratotone tone.

Honestly I never thought of the break angle! Just to be 100% sure that is the angle from the bridge to the start of the bigsby right?

It would affect playability because you believe you'll hit your hand on it while picking?

I could switch it out for another tailpiece or possibly move it if I have room.

  6. I've thought of these questions and I do have a plan on how to build them. I wont be answering the questions because basically there's no point right now. I built this off plans of a les paul blueprint.

I'm building it currently in 3dmax but I will be building it in Autocad which then you can print the blueprints. I can import what i'm building into autocad also (some models).

I actually have a 3 full size humbucker guitar (Eastwood Airline 3dpx).

I've put together a guitar from a kit and sold it so I do have an understanding. Not an expert but definitely I have the knowledge.

  7. I believe I wrote what is more important in my previous post.

I believe it should be looked at aesthetically firstly (design) then put together with the building aspect which is functionality/tone/ergonomics/etc.

Definitely design is a big thing, every guitar player wants to look cool right?

  8. It currently has issues that a builders design perspective will see straight away. Do you want a list? Will i get paid a consultation fee for providing one? :D

Not sure I understand what your saying there sorry?

Well I understand how your saying designing and building can not be treated separately but at the same time they should be. I believe it should be looked at aesthetically firstly (design) then put together with the building aspect which is functionality/tone/ergonomics/etc.

And I'm glad you like my design! Thanks!

  9. -Yes i was thinking of that also, being the middle man. Doing the designs, getting a contract to build a guitar then contracting a builder.

-Bionic dave (Every builder is a designer.)

That's not true, I've seen a lot of just copy builds. And sometimes people who don't have an artistic eye build really....cough...awkward guitars...

If I provide the CNC shop with material and designs (Yes I know autocad actually) how much approximately of course is the hourly wage for the run time?

  10. I basically re-posted because last time I didn't get many responses and I thought if I started over with a sample it would go smoother. We'll to me it doesn't seem to be a big risk if the luthier likes the design. You have to believe in the product to sell it right? I'll take your advise and try smaller companies. I tried some larger companies but they responded to me saying they already had designers and don't buy designs. Maybe you know of some smaller companies that could possibly be interested?

Don't worry it didn't come off Evil sounding Chris!

Anyways I'm not trying to get rich here. Just maybe see a few dollars and more importantly see my designs out there.

  11. Hi I was wondering if there's a certain method of business within the Luthier/Custom guitar world. If Luthiers buy or go in business with designers?

I study in design, I've played guitar for many years, in bands, recording etc. I want to combine my passions and I've been designing guitars.

Maybe someone here is building an upcoming guitar and maybe would rather do a custom design rather than a les paul.... Obviously I wouldn't look to make a big cut since I wouldn't be actually doing most of the work.

Anyways here's an unfinished 3d sketch. One of many, many.

  12. Thanks ihocky2. Well i was using 150 and 80 sandpaper, i was trying to be as delicate as possible so when i started to see wood i'd switch lighter.

Yeah good idea. I'm going to have to go out and shop around a bit. If i cant find anything I think i'll just try to get some decent wood and make myself a box.

  13. How do u remove a glued on neck properly from the body? I did slowly removed it until I realized the body was not even worth a cent, so i figured i'd have fun. And i dont regret it, i always wanted to smash a guitar like a rockstar!

If you guys keep on insinuating that I'll end up doing something horrible (aka the popcorn) I'll just go to another forum were they dont make me feel like an unwelcomed noob.

@SJE-Guitars: I already started sanding it and I think the top is a vaneer. I'll post pictures probably tonight.
