  1. I'm toying with the idea of building a new neck for my strat. The current neck has a rosewood fretboard that I'm actually OK with. (Maybe except for the frets but that's another project for another time.) But my question is how do I go about it without ruining the fretboard?
  2. I suppose I would if; 1) I couldn't find it locally 2) I could see a picture of it before I buy it 3) I got a good enough deal on it.
  3. I've used linseed oil on my fretboard and it does darken the wood nicely. If you do use it, a little does go a long way. I try to use it every few months to keep the wood from drying out too much.
  4. I did one over the winter as my first build. The body is OK as long as you plan on doing solid colors. I'm quickly becoming disenchanted with the neck; I'm just not overly thrilled with the neck contour. My thought is to go with more of a v contour rather than the contour it currently has. I'm toying with the idea of doing one from scratch. My limited experience would concur with what others have said. The hardware is craptacular at best. I had a couple of the tuners fall apart on me. But that was OK because my original plan was to replace them with kluson-style tuners anyway. I also replaced the pickguard, knobs and p/u covers. As long as you're not looking for a custom shop level guitar you'll be fine.
