  1. I put a new blade on my bandsaw after I got it(original was really dull) and finished a setup on it..

Its a closed base 14" Jet bandsaw. The Base is stable when its running but the saw itself has a annoying vibration.

Its still workable, and everything looks right but I dont know whats causing it. I thought maybe blade tension, but the gauge is pretty good, and the saw feels like its cutting ok, just shaky..

    any ideas?

  2. well, I had two guitars in the box ready to assemble. So all the tuners, fret wire, truss rod, etc.. basically a complete set for each.

Then I had a router, a ton of bits, including the stew mac truss rod bit.

    2 palm sanders...

the stewmac table fret saw, and 1 guide for it

    files, chisels, drivers, sanders, etc

wood wise I lost a swamp ash and african mahogany body, 2 necks of mahogany/paduak. A bunch of wenge, mahogany body blank..

I bought many of the same tools when I got to texas, I couldnt wait on the box, first I was going to drive and get it, but there was some complication so I tried shipping it and it never got co-ordinated right so I said I would just pay whatever it costs to get it, and it was to late.

Im mainly upset about the stew-mac tools, my router, and the guitar parts.. that stuff was all brand new so its all lost..

I appreciate the offer for donation, that means a lot community wise. But its ok. It just saddening. I WILL be taking you up on the shop offer though if we cant get the other thing worked out, and Im probably contacting you soon for some fretboard stuff. My girlfriend couldnt really understand why it was upsetting, but the white one was my first guitar ever to be built. Its ugly, and needs work, but it was sentimental. my old roomate sucks for not telling me before deciding to toss it, but he has other stuff of mine im trying to get so I dont want to start a fight.

  3. Do you mean you may have cut the heel or the side cutaways in too far Deso?

Yeah, I designed it around a set of EMG actives for a 5 string bass. if you check the link I posted its the build thread I started a gagillion years ago..

anyway, the sides are cut in to a EMG would have just over 2" on each side of the "neck" pickup.. Most basses have 4" from the edge of the cutaways...

Now that I look at it it feels TOO narrow. But my friend wanted a SOLID body bass, and I cant believe I got a piece that large...

I got my measurements from a Jazz bass, the widest part is the same width, and the horns of a Jazz bass are the same length..

the two designs look very similar (Based on a Rick) but smaller, so I was curious if im just being paranoid.. and if you go to that link, ignore the terrible headstock, I convinced him to change his mind.

  4. I had a quick question, could you give some dimensions?

mainly, how much space is from the edge of the EMG to the edge of the guitar?

about how tall is the bass from the bottom to the end of the body( not the horn, I guess where the neck "starts")

I ask because I started a build, but I think I made it far to small for a bass. I get stuck on guitars and never notice..

    heres a link:

  5. I guess in my head I just remember shooting a piece of wood across the shop at high speed when the large belt sander I was working on took hold and yanked the piece from my hand.. I keep seeing these and think that the drum would do simmilar.. Good to know!

  6. You could also try and use a surge protector(A REAL ONE, NOT A MULTI OUTLET)

My friend records in his apartment, but his PC goes into a big Battery backup surge protector that I bet helps with grounding and feedback a ton.

I would try the extension cord first, a much cheaper solution.

  7. if you've wired it straight from the battery to the stero jack and the pickup, with no pots in between, and then changed the jack and your still getting the problem, there is one of 5 things going on:

    1. You ruined the pickup doing something

    2. The pickup came to you broken(Which happens, there is an accepted ratio of good product to bad product at any factory)

    3. something from the guitar to the amp is messed up (See: Cable, input jack on amp)

getting distracted, someone watching attonement on the PC next to me.. I love Keira...

    ANYWAY

    4. Something inside the amp is broken

    5. Nothing is broken, and the Entire World is out to get you...

Anyone who knows electronic troubleshooting(car mechanics included) will tell you the best way to test fault is either to have the entire correct setup, remove a item, and retest untill the signal clears showing the issue. Or remove everything but the bare esentials and add until failure.

If you keep buying batteries and electronic parts you have allready spent as much as a cheap meter. You can get one at home depot, Lowes, menards, Radio shack, HEB, etc. for about $15

one with a Tone is best IMO because you dont have to read it, just hear when the signal is clear, but any will work.

Your post are very confusing, and I dont think anyone means to insult you, but you are posting multiple times in the same hour going back in forth.

from your first post, the capacitors I use have 1.5 inch legs, so when bent, it almost reaches 3" from wherever I have it soldered, my pots are usually less then this. If a instance occured, I would just extend one leg using a wire.

now the problem seems even wierder. all wired up, and you only hear feedback, even when it isnt plugged into the amp. but when i plug it in, it will only pickup the strings when my finger touches the output jack on a certain lug. it doesnt make sense to me. actives arnt meant to be grounded, so why is it doing this? i just cant figure it out.

this is a confusing statement. The amp sounds like feedback, even when the guitars not attached?!?!? Theres your problem. sounds like the wire is using YOU as a ground, DANGEROUS AMPS ARE HIGH CURRENT!!

OH SNAP! She just jumped into the fountain...

    anyway..

THEN you wrote that you tested using a passive pickup, and get the same issue..

either your amp is busted, or your doing something wrong if the PASSIVE wired straight to a jack is bad.

one thing you could test, is bypass the stereo jack and wire the battery directly, this will keep it "on" but take it out of the circut, then see if it outputs signal. If not, then its time to Call EMG.

  8. how warped is it? are you screwing it down like on a strat or tele?

if so, it can handle quite a bit of flex(when making my pickup slots wider for a minibucker I held it over my knee and noticed some bending)

whenever I take mine off my old strat it twists up a good bit, but it all lays pretty good once I screw it back down

  9. maybe im just an idiot, but I dont understand what forces the board against the drum.

I HAVE seen small table top drum sanders where the user pushes against the drum, and in planers I know there are very strong abrasive wheels(VERY STRONG) but ive never seen them in these large sanding units, just a belt.

Is the belt all thats used? or is there something else?

Besides thinner boards V. Cuttout what is the large advantage of using a drum sander Vs a planer?

  10. TEXAS GET TOGETHER IN DALLAS!!!

    /just sayin' that's all. :D:D

Im moving up there in June..

    SADNESS!!!

Im loosing my shop space to move into a downtown apartment with my GF. I dont want to loose all the stuff, but cant keep it anywhere.

I dont know who all lives in Dallas, but it would be great to find a fellow hobbyist who would be willing to share some garage space or tool time(mainly big stuff like table saw, jointer, bandsaw) I could use my router wherever as well as sand ETC at my own apartment, as well as hold all my lumber and works in progress.

I would be willing to bring and share my 14" closed base 2hp Bandsaw(can have a block insert to raise it, so would be a GREAT resaw capable bandsaw) my 5HP table saw(steel top with a table router pannel attached) my little 7" Jointer and a decent older Delta 13" drill press.

I would chip in for saw blades and whatnot, and be willing to pay for using the space. And it would be whenever the space was available.

Plus is would be great to find someone else whos into this...

EDIT: I have alot of other weird tools, and clamps, sanders, sander-press attachments etc.. the norm I guess.

  11. by reading the other post I would assume they vanished.

I had a problem with a board and asked on here weather or not I should send a board back or not. Someone asked the name of the company and I said it, before long it was a heated debate over what a person on the phone, did or did not say, when the company came on the forum.

I had many backers on my side of the matter but still. Now I dont talk about it.

I could understand if they steal from you, or something goes horribly wrong, but untill that point I wouldnt say anything.

  12. heres a Delta press for $175. at Lowes. Has the laser, the light and a table.

    http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=prod...&lpage=none

    http://www.deltamachinery.com/index.asp?e=136&p=6120

I cant find the HP rating for the Craftsman or the Delta, but the speed ratings are all in line...

I played with the press, it felt decent when I was playing with it, and before I bought a older model it was what I planned on getting.
