Hellow I am needing some sugestions a friend of mine has a birthday coming up and I am wanting to to build him a strat for a present I am most likely going to chamber it for weight cause he has a bad back but my freind is a total tone freak so I would like to use a very unique sounding exotic wood I was thinking maybe padauk but I've heard it sounds alot like maple and I have never really ben able to amagine such a hard wood being good for a body cause I would think it wood have no bass and very little mids so I kneed some ideas.
  6. Hey this is kind of a newb question but I am staining a piece of mahogany in stew mac cherry red recomended mix using achohol and when I put it on its a very nice briliant red then once drie or soaks in the wood it dulls downbut my questin is once it dries there are some areas where the stain is thick that is closer to what it looks like when it's wet so am I trying to make the whole guitar look like this or am I trying to make it all look like the dull area and once I seal and laquer it it the bright brilliant red will come back. All help is apreciated cheers.

  11. well I have finished tables and small wood furniture and I finished one guitar but it was just a disaster I got the lacquer from reranch and I put 10 coats on it and used 2 cans of lacquer and was just having sand throughs like no other so I must not have used enough lacquer per coat cause I follwed the directions at reranch and even the dude who owns reranch and he said 2 cans should be enough.
