There is a way to make exact duplicate tops without a CNC router. David Thomas Mcnaught uses a devise. It is a router duplicater. He has his master top on one side of a table and the , to be top on the other side. One side has a router mounted to this bar and the other side has a metal pin that is parallel to the router bit tip. He trace the top of the master top while the router it running and it cuts the to be guitar top. After that it is some rough sanding and then final sanding. He makes his necks the same way.

The "feel" of a strat neck is because it has a 9" fretboard radius not because of the 25.5 scale length. Most neckthroughs have 12 - 16" radiuses combine this with a shorter scale lenght and I think you get the same kind of "feel" as a strat neck.
The StewMac and the Carvin necks are not different. The carvin neck has addedes carbin rods in te neck and a different truss rod set up. But other than that yes they have the same scale length and headstock angle.
Building from scratch isn't that hard if you have a decent woodworking background. I have done it several times. The second time I mastered it.

I have to agree that scarf joint angled necks are the best. I have built all my buitar with this and the strength is unsurpassable. Also it looks cool. Also if the glue joint is tight then any tone problems won't occur.
