ok its just like our usual Guitar > Amp > Speaker setup. except in this case its Guitar > Tiny Amp > Headphones. everything just plugs in, not building anything into headphones. I know i am pretty crap at explaining things. :S Ben
  3. Hey man, good work on the guitar! I was particulary interested in the way you painted your guitar. You see i am building my 1st guitar now and soon i will have to paint it. Is five coats of automotive paint necissary? They dont put that many on cars! I mean i have no idea about painting so maybe it is. I am going to go with some sort of autmotive paint too. Just need to choose the colour and work out the method. Ben

No you dont need expensive headphones. But i find those ones tht go inside your ears get fairly pain ful after a while. And also usually (well most of the time) the better ones are more expensive. So depending on what you find comfortable, the sound quality you want and your price range or the headphones that can with your last portable cd player they'll all work, just some are better than others. OK, i was lookin at this Little Gem. ANd Lovecraft or someone else, i was wondering if you could write out a Bill of materials in a way i could just email to an electrical shop and the can get all the componants out to me. YOu see i dont know if the capacitors are tantalim or electrlytic (SP??) or what to use etc. Also I looked for a 25ohm rheostat.. what the is one of those?, do those things exist apart from at radioshack? Also In resisitors '5K B Gain' im guessing thats a pot, but am not sure what to look for when ordering this thing. Thanks, Ben

Thanks LoveCraft. Wow that Little Gem is a little Gem, look how small and simple it is. I wish i new that existed before i started my MXR. WHy is it that the MXR needs to alot more complex than the little Gem if they both do the same thing? IN fact no you dont have to answer that, its probly some elctrics thing i dont understand.lol. I might just build one of those little gems, Ill have to take out another tiny order for parts tho too. hahah. ahh well wat can you do. About the wiring error i had a look on my print out and the date was 8th of may so mine should be right. Thanks for your help! Ben
  9. Hey all, Now i know this topic is suited more for one of those DIY stompbox forums or something but i am subscribed to this one and i know there are some very knowlagable people here that can help me. A while ago i got some parts and decided to make a headphone amp to put INSIDE my project guitar i am making. i thought though id build it normally 1st just to get it working and stuff. I got to there and im stuck. I am using just a drilled circuit board where i have to run all the wires to the parts myself. I cannot get this thing working. I have power because my LED comes on. I dont even get any static or anything. I spent hours on it today checking all my soldering joints to make sure everything was right. I have a question. If i have a resistor that is slightly different to what GGG to me to use should i still get some sort of sound right? even if it isnt as good as if i was using the exact one. I assume this because sometimes even when i check resistors they can be out by abit. I ask this because i have (according to multimetre) 3.3K resistor where i should have a 3.9 . Another question. If a resistor is soldered up onto my circuit board and i go to test it will the reading on the multi metre be affected by the components it is soldered to? If i cant get it worked out i am just going to order the ready to solder circuit board off GGG and start again. For interest sake peoples the project i am making is at GGG and link is: http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/v2/ind...p=page&SubMenu= I am obviously very new at all this but i want to end up with something working. Oh and thanks alot Lovecraft for those few diodes you sent me. Though i havnt used them yet because this thing wont work.. Haha, Alrighty any answers or tips would be great! Gee, i use this forum for help but never really give much back.. dont really have the chance to when i am probly the most uneducated on the topic of builidng guitars here, sorry guys and girls... Thanks again! Bye for now, Ben
  10. Thanks alot both Ansil and lovecraft, Ill email you lovecraft, thanks for the offer ansil but you've alraedy been very generous. Ben
  11. Hey thanks for the tips ansil. Speaking of free stuff. I was wondering if there are any kind people out there that wouldnt mind sending me 2x 1N914 diodes. Thats all i need to complete my first project which is a headphone amp but they didnt write it on on the bill of materials sheet i used when i ordered the parts. I looked it up in my DSE catalogue, they costs 6 cents each and minimum order is $10. I live in Australia, so any aussie (or very friendly OS person) has 1N914 diodes lying around it would be great if you could send me a couple. I could repay you with like a bootleg cd as i collect them (www.bsto.tk) if you want. Thanks, Ben
  12. Small Bear Electronics is a good little online store, but they didnt reply to my email regarding if they had the parts i required (Its been about 4 days). I am going to email someone at General Guitar Gadgets and ask where they reccomend buying all the parts from for their projects. Ben
  13. Wow, they do got alot alot fo stuff. Its gunna take me a while ot find all these parts.. One thing i cant even find on mouser is a 1/4 watt rating, 500k, reverse log pot. Does it go by another name by any chance. Thanks, Ben
  14. Hey, I want to build the MXR Headphone amp right.. and well i am having difficulties finding and ordering all the parts! The part list can be found here. I come from Australia, 1st i had a go at www.dse.com.au and then ww1.jaycar.com.au to try and find all the parts and add them to basket etc, but a heap of them arnt there. I even had a go on Racioshack.com but still the 2nd transisitor i searched for wasnt there. I have built a couple of kits together so i have the gernal idea with soldering etc. Just never had to source the parts seperately myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Ben
  15. That is an awsome website, i didnt know it existed.. thanks heaps lovecraft Ben
  16. Hey there, I am building a guitar which i plan to put a small amplifier inside that runs off a 9v battery so i have the option of plugging headphones in or just the standard output. I am having a few problems with the amp circuit thought. I have a circuit daigram suited for headphone amplification but I am unsure how to use the diagram (i.e. some of the symbols, and stuff) or how to draw up the PCD board for it (understand the actual marking it all on the PCB, just not planning where everything needs to go). I have scanned the diagram on. Any explanation or help would be very greatly appreciated!! The diagram can be found Here. Thanks a bunch! Ben
  17. Yes, i was talking about 1 piece where by the truss rod is inserted from the back. I didnt realise that the 1 piece may warp a little more. And yeh i agree with the maple fretboard wearing quickly, but hey who doesnt love the vintage 'used' look . Thanks heaps for your coments. -benno
  18. I recently bought a fernands 1 piece maple neck (C shape) ('57 re-issue) off ebay with 6 kluson vintage for AU$150. The main reason i bought this one with no research was because i once played a fender strat with a one piece maple neck and i loved it. Its a school project and i need to come up with some pro's and cons of this type of neck, mainly pros so i can justify why i bought this neck . Answers based on just from experience would be great. Some sample ideas for Pro's and Con's. what is dis/advantage over a two piece? why is maple a good/bad neck wood? why is bolt on good/bad? why is the brand good/bad? why is C shape good bad? Oh and also if you are up to it have a comment on the tuners, same sort of this as the neck. Thanks for your time people! -benno
  19. Brian mate, you are a legend. Great idea. -benno
  20. Hey all, I have bought a alder strat style body that is made up of like 3 pieces of wood. I want to put a maple top on it. I have never done this before or used a maple veneer so i really have no idea. On the side of the body it is very curved, how do i go about fixing the top to this? Will it work? I have seen the tutorial but it is on a guitar with fairly perpendicular edges. Also are there many Aussies here? I need to know where you get your guitar parts from. I saw on Universal Jems Maple tops, they dont cost alot of money, but i dont know how fragile they are and how well they would travel from where ever they are coming from. Thanks for your time, regards benno
  21. Thanks for the link to Guitar Nuts.. it is a great resouce, lots of good strat ideas to play with... like you GOG247 will have to read up on how to read those diagram correctly i have some idea but. Thanks again, benno
  22. hey thanks, for the replys, my email address is ben7@softhome.net Thanks again benno
  23. Hey all. In the process of me designing my 1st electric I am trying to figure out how to wire this guitar. I am making a strat style guitar with 3 single coil Don Lace AGP pickups. I want to have 1 volume and 1 tone. I found a schematic for that here, ok so that is easy enough to follow but i also found this type of wiring here which is for a strat with a push-pull pot to make the setup more versitile. Now what I want to do I have a push pull pot and the versitile pickup settings with only 1 tone nob. Can anyone please direct me to a schematic like this or even if they have some spare time draw one up for me.. Thanks for your time, benno
  24. Thats them, i just need to find an aussie guitar parts shop with em, shouldnt be too hard, i was given the name of a fair few a week or so ago. Cheers
