  1. haven't updated this in a while, the blue RGA7 is coming along nicely. i refinished it since the last photo, because waterbased finish is just junk. theres 1 run in this one right now, it'll be flat sanded tomorrow, so its not a big deal really. there is also one spec of dirt in the finish, underneath the run, that'll also be flat sanded tomorrow, just a bit of hair.

the dust all over it isn't in the finish :D its just cause its been hanging in the shop to cure and i didn't blow it off before i snapped the pics

  2. put in the order monday for custom wound nordstrand pickups, with a custom design to match my string spacing, and they're already done! i gotta finish a project and sell it so i can pay for them though, but i'm workin on it today, should have it done before the weekend is over.

heres a quick mockup with tuners, put a texas ebony headcap on it, you can also see the ebony binding just a little bit. the binding isn't on the furthest part of the fretboard though, it will be tomorrow. i'm going to modify the headstock slightly, to bring the curved part under the low F# to where its quite a bit closer to the low F#. the tuners being "backwards" on the treble side of the headstock is intentional, i really liked how it looked on my Yamaha build(which is still not completed :D ).

  4. Im Not a big fan of the headstock, it seems to smallish for that design and it could flow a bit more with the body. I do love the body design man Very cool, I cant wait to see it finished

i'm not a fan of big headstocks, to be honest. especially if they have a chance of making a guitar neck heavy. this headstock is basically the same size as a lot of 6 string headstocks... i don't think more strings should equate to more headstock realty, personally. take the headstock on your green V for instance, its big enough to have 1 more tuner on it and be used on an 8, its not that appealing, especially with the shape of the body...

  5. Even though the it will be dry within 24 hours, I would try and hold onto that guitar for a few weeks at least if you can get the customer to wait for it. The work looks great, but you might run into a problem with your poly coats. General auto poly's are not meant to built up thick, that is why they say to spray on 2, sometimes 3 coats. I spoke with a tech at PPG at one time and they said for they purpose we use on guitars, that if you need more than 3 coats that you have to wait at least 24 hours and scuff sand before recoating. By spraying 6 coats in that short of a time you may run into solvent pop problems. But usually if the coats are too thick, the finish will crack all the way through, but does not happen right away. I made that mistake once, took about 6 weeks to show up.

i flat sanded it this morning and did 2 more coats today. solvent pop? this is a 2 part system, it has a hardener and a base, its like an epoxy, no solvent popping, because it doesn't disolve anything to dry. btw, it flat sanded like a dream, didn't even get much of the annoying buildup on the sandpaper that you have to scrape off, it was great. i also have to hold off on it for a while because the guy is out of town, and he hasn't shipped me the pickup yet, so it won't be going out the door for a couple of weeks.
