    a quick update..I got the two body parts laminated together, and thickness sanded to 1.40" now i am waiting on the templates to get here so I can start routing. I still need to resaw my wood for the fret board and headstock . Still need to get the stock for the neck laminated and get the scarf joint going...will post some pics later this week.

    to do this on a table saw is very easy . Just do it while stock for the neck is all square still. you could do it with one saw blade or with a dado bade and shims to get it done in one pass. I'd recomend that it be done in several passes so you can flip the neck around end for end, and that will ensure that your slot is perfectly centered. Once the slot is cut, glue in a block to butt the truss rod against , and fills in the rest of the slot.

    If you use a router, it sould still be done with mutliple passes..

    when you say veneer, do you mean multiple plies of backer with the decorative wood on top? or just thin solid wood? with either, wood glue should be suficient, a thin layer spread across the whole surface. Make sure that you have a backer board to clamp to to keep it all flat. oversized and then flush rout off the excess...

    one thing you might consider is getting the saw bade that stew mac sells and cut your fretboards on the table saw. The first one that i did came out great and took 25 minutes to do....just make sure that your fence and mitre gauge are setup properly and square to the blade....

    Daniel, thanks for checking it out, it should be fun!

    today i'm going to get the other side of the body laminated. I wish that i had some stock that was thick enough....but laminating will be ok i guess... Then I'll get the neck material glued up and hopefully be ready to go when my templates get here.

    I have a question...In the first guitar, i used a Hot Rod truss rod. I put a few dabs of bathroom sealant in the channel to dampen any rattling of the truss rod....but it still rattles! weird. Anyone have that problem before? Wondering if i should use the same kind of truss rod again, or go with differrent style this time....hmmmmmm :D

    Hey there all,

    I'm just starting to build my second guitar. It's going to be a SG . I have a bunch of African Mahoganny in my garage so i'm going to put some of it into this. I have a piece of lacewood that i think will make a nice fretboard. I ordered a set of templates from ebay. all of the hardware etc. i'll order from Stew Mac . except i'm undecided on which pickups to get...i put the golden age pickups in my Les Paul that I made, std in the neck and hot one in the brdge, and i've been quite pleased with them for the money. Or i could get a two classic 57's from guitar center, and even get a Angus sig one from there as well....Any sugesstions??

    My stock is only 1" thick so i'm laminating it together to get it thick enough.... :D

    wow,i had to reply to this thread, both Setch, and Melvyn ....I have to thank the both of you...your book Melvyn, and your web page Setch both were so helpful in the creation of my first guitar that I made ( pictures are in a different thread in this forum) I'm editing the recordings from last night so that I can let peple know how it sounds...very cool and my hats off to both of you!!
