You need the steam to get water into the glue joint, hopeing that it is titebonded on anyway, if it glued on with epoxy you wont get it off. A hairdryer wont be hot enough really i dont think. An iron and a pallette knife is the best option

My brother has one, with the light and dark puzzle pieces. There are absolutely NO gaps . They're perfectly matched and the bevels are perfectly done. I will take some pics soon!
If there were no gaps they wouldnt bevel the edges. A perfectly joined jigsaw pattern, totally flush would look cool and probably quite beautful if you like wooing over good joints
The bevels just make it easy to have not so good a fit and fill the gaps with filler without noticing.

Cheers, you can see where i ****ed up on tuesday its all fixed though. Thank god for david! oooh. I have finished my next electric design Sooooo hot. I will have to show you one day

I notch the braces into the sides as well, so before binding you can see the bracing around the sides. This is just the way I have learned, nothing wrong with either way, just different methods

Hi there everyone,
I'm Joe, one of Andy's(Jammy on this forum) mates, we're both learing guitar construction in Manchester (UK) and i thourght I would show you the beginnings of my HND acoustic project.
To set the scene:
1st project was my A-level electric body made from Paduak with a figured walnut burl top, nice.
2nd project was my mandolin which we all had to make on the course
3rd project was my Shallow Jumbo Acoustic 6-string that is soooo nice and big and warm and loud
4th project is my 4-string tenor guitar using modded plans of a martin style 5. I love this guitar, its so clear and the top was able to go thinner than normal so the single notes are louder and crisper
5th project is a Tele for my brother made from quartered ash, flame maple neck, maccasser ebony F/board
6th project is still running due to a warped neck blank and no money on my bass players half. he is having my take on a stingray with a very funky piece of ash for the body and an all maple neck. nice
7th project is about to be polished being a 1952 replica tele (which there are so many bits that arent replica its funny) for my dad as he was born in '52, ahhhh
6th project is the formentioned HND acoustic project that i designed myself using the golden section and many stupid dreamt up ideas.
Here is the Top and back, both made from european walnut, trust me, i know it aint spruce or cedar but it will be ok, trust me
Here is the sycamore neck which will be a bolt on just glued up and sanded clean
And here is my rossette.
Now i know what you are thinging, "i can see a big bloody line down the center where your soundhole should be", but you're wrong, that is not the centre line, my centre line is perfectly through the middle of the hole drilled for the router base, that line is a split that happenned when i was taked the router base out of the top after my last route. I was furious/devastaded but my tutor helped me sort everything and one the sound hole is cut, I will see how bad it looks and cover it with another piece that matchers. Oh the joys of woodworking.
So yeah, I hope you like it so far. I have many more stupid ideas but i will save them for another post (cough circular bracing cough) mwuahahahaha! IT shall be, i the words of my friend james "ROCKTASTIC", andy will get it.
Peace
Joe x

Did you put your linings in after glueing on the top? I can just see that the small sections where the braces meet the sides/linngs are seperate from the rest of the linings> or did you move the linings down after nothching the braces into the sides? or hacve you finished the braces to meet with the sides instead of notching them in?
Just strange curiousity I guess.

haha...they're not gaps, they're bevels. I can't find the first pic I saw, it was a close-up of the body, but I've found this ebay listing with some more pics:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Ibanez-RG20063-06-Limi...1QQcmdZViewItem
& some NAMM pics

Oh they are gaps! i saw one close up in my local and they are bloody aweful. They may have slightly bevelleved over the edge but they dont have a chance of fitting together. I have just finished making a rossete on my next acoustic that has 5 points around it, if they hadnt have perfectly fit, then i wouldnt just bevel over the edge. IMO if a company wants to mass produce guitars they should at least do something achievable.

You have to make sure that either side of the bridge lie on the X brace, so the centre of the X will be slightly higher than the bridge, if you get me. Definaltey get a mplan, but you dont want the bridge to be off the X brace or else the string tension will ruin the guitar by pushing the soundhole area down.

If the gutiar is string through, then the bridger couldn't come off even if you didnt screw it down, the string pressurfe over the bridge will hold it in place. Look at Grestch and orther artop guitars, their bridges are floting bridges, not held on by anything but string tension
