I heard the "Beat it" solo the other day...I guess was inspired:

One of the numerous colored mirror tops I've done:

Very Cool!
Your design has a lot of what I shoot for in a design. I especially like the extended upper horn.
-
Cool idea...but the green looks un-natural IMHO.

Hi all,
In my quest for a larger vacuum bagging clamp system I have been looking all over for a venturi vacuum generator for a reasonable price. Most seem to start at 40+ $ well I have found one for about $15.
Cool! I finally broke down and ordered a 24" x 24" bag from Joe veneer on Monday, so this is perfect timing for me.
I figured it's time I tried this vacuum thing. I have a borrowed venturi block that runs $90, but I'm never comfortable borrowing tools. I will definately pick one of these up today. Keep posting pics of your PVC tanks & progress.
I get email coupons from HF about once a week...didnt even see this in the last email:
It expires on 4-26-09. Anyone who wants to use it should be able to print it out, and take it in to the store. About once a month they email a 20% off any single purchase coupon.

I wonder if you have tried cutting shell as a test?
I have tried cutting shell on the laser with limited sucess. It has to be cut very slow...and smells like burnt hair.

Thanks guy's....I've been really busy lately. I guess I need to take time to RE:
I have a Pinnacle 35 watt CO2 laser. I’ve had it for almost 6 years…cost me $18k. I use CASmate & Engravelab 6 for design & output. I have a sign business (I also cut vinyl). I primarily use the laser for guitar related jobs, but I also do some award engraving. I have doubled my luthier clientele in the past year, so I am slowly moving from signage, to all guitar related jobs.
The speeds & feeds vary on materials. Pearlessence is similar to wood. One wood species cuts easier than another. With acrylic, one color may cut cleaner, or faster than the next. I still haven’t completely figured it out. The best thing to do is have plenty of extra on hand. Here is a good place to start:
1/8” acrylics – vector cut 100% power (35 watts) at 2ipm.
1/8” acrylics – raster cut 100% power (35 watts), speed at 70% max, 1000dpi.
I’m not sure how to respond to the notion of using the laser as a way of “cheating”. I know there are purists out there, and I can respect that. But, you have to qualify it. The question is, what qualifies as “cheating”. Is it acceptable to use a PC to surf the web for information, but not OK to use a PC to generate a toolpath?
What I have found is most craftsman that have a problem with a certain technology only have a problem with the technology they don’t have…until they get the machine, or tool in question. Then they suddenly don’t have a problem with it any more. One of the main misconceptions of CNC based machines is most people who have never operated one before think they program themselves. These machines still take knowledge to program & skill to operate. When there is artwork involved, it takes an additional level of ability. Bottom line is: it’s just another tool.

These are youtube videos of a band I was in back in 1999/2000. My bass player (Kent) & I decided to throw a band together for a New Years Eve show in Kent's basement, and ended up playing together for about a year. Kent built the light show himself. He had it fully operational in about 2 days. A few of the vids are from that show. I'm on guitar
Ahhhh the memories

Erik,
Shoot me an email with your order form with pricing, or your phone#. I have some upcoming builds, and work for other builders that I will need boards for.
Thanks, Doug

I don't feel too conceited in saying that my favorite shape is my own guitar, after all - if it wasn't my favorite shape - I wouldn't have built it that way,
+1! One of the shapes I build is very similar to yours. I'm a fan of extended upper horns. My 3x3 headstock shape is similar as well.
Here is my current favorite shape:

OK...It's about time I dusted off this thread/project, and started posting again. I have been concentrating lately on work that pays thie bills.
This run is still in the semi-R&D phase.
I know some of you are going to think I'm crazy, but I'm scrapping the bolt on necks I have made so far, and going with a set neck with a smooth heel. OK, I'm not "scrapping" them. I'm just setting them aside. I plan on finishing the bolt on's I have done ...someday....maybe
..
The new ones will have a ziricote board like I originally planned. I have to give credit to Jeremy (Jer7440). Thanks Jeremy!
He busted out a 3D file for me with my specs & headstock. I hope to run the first ones later this week.

T6, T7, & T9 are all sold as well

Are the dimensions given for each 1/2 on the top sets?
Yea...sorry.
I should have metioned that. Double the width dim (7" = 14" actual). Just email me the ones you want. doug(at)parableguitars(dot)com

These top sets are $20/set –or- 2 sets for $30 + actual shipping costs unless noted. I'll help cover shipping on 4 sets or more.
Most of these sets are thickness planed, and will need sanding to get them smooth. I didnt wet any of these for the pics, they are straight dry shots. These are off to fleabay in the next week or so. Paypal & Lower 48 states only please

For those of you who still buy guitars now and then.
This is a nice guitar at an excellent price. Just picked one up:

I went for #3. But they all sound good
-
I need to give the board a thin coat of clear, then I will re-slot the board before fretting it.
-
Unfortunately, I havent got much done on these in the last couple weeks. I threw out my back about a week ago...still on the mend. I got a chiropractic adjustment this morning. Experience tells me it will be a few more days before I'm back to 100%. Here is the latest.

Very cool Matt! I'd like to see a guitar done like that.
