  1. I've got a lot of Grizzly stuff. Some of it is great..other stuff is borderline junk:

    Table Saw - G0715P = 4 out of 5 stars. needs a stronger motor

Jointer - G0452Z = 5 out of 5 stars. It came with a faulty motor, which Grizzly replaced. This is the perfect jointer for figured wood!

Band Saw - G0555 = 4 out of 5 stars. I have the riser block, but it's still not great for re-sawing.

Drill Press - G7945 / 46 = 1 out of 5 stars. :angry2: This thing is junk. I would not recommend it at all. It has about 3/32 play in the spindle.

My next Grizzly purchase is this: http://www.grizzly.c...le-Sander/G1071

A friend of mine has one and it is very nice. I almost pulled the trigger on one last month, but funds were low. Right now I'm using a cheap harbor freight model.

    Hope it helps!

  2. Well...I figure it's way past time for an update on the CNC build. I have the machine fully assembled & running. I have my trusty Xbox USB controller hooked up & running as the machine controller. And, I finally finished the enclosure with plexi doors just in time for the guitar building classes that start on Sept. 6th. So, I thought I'd share. :D

  3. OK...Here you go as promised. I went through my stash, I don't have as much as I originally thought. These are all standard veneer thickness...wood only (no paperbacks). Pics are all taken dry. On the species that I have some extra, I will throw in enough for a heatstock. Some of these will have to be shipped curled in a square box about 14"x14", so I'm doing a 2 set minimum. Here's the good news: For every top bought, I will include one 8" x 22" fiddleback Makore booked top as a freebie (seen at the bottom of the post). Cant beat that! ;) It works really well as a backing on a sapele body...really adds a nice touch. Shipping in the lower 48 will be about $10ish.

Paypal only. Post what you want, then PM or email me.

These are all $10 bookmatched top sets:

    Beeswing Sapele 7 3/4" x 28"...2 sets available SOLD

    Macassar Ebony 7 1/2" x 32"...2 sets available

Zebrano 7" x 33"...2 sets available (has a very small crack in the center near the end, it should not effect the top)

Smoked Figured Eucalyptus 8" x 27"...3 sets available SOLD

    Figured Etimote 9" x 40" (32" useable)...1 set available

  4. Nice stuff!

Doug sent a test fretboard my way a while back to get feedback on it, and one of my comments was the same as Bionic said: for me, the 12th was much too far up the neck for a perpendicular fret. I place mine at the 6th on my baritone 26.5"-28" boards, which I've found is a good balance of playability, aesthetics, and string tension (tuned B to b w/ GHS .070" strings).

So, what ever happened with that build?

  5. Hey Brett, I was looking at this pic in your other thread. I noticed the neck pocket looks like you either machined it in a vertical "raster" without a cleanup pass, or it has a major amount of chatter. The pup rout doesnt look that way though...?

  6. Youch! I had a similar mishap (same but different) happen on a higher end Christmas gift project:

    mccool2.jpg

It's for a friend of mine that is a music minister. I wanted to do a really nice custom build for him because all he has had the money for is a MIM strat. I used 60 year old cherry for the core, babinga veneer pinstripes, and flame maple on the front & back. The top has two 1/4" layers of flame with a pinstripe in between. Needless to say, a good amount of time in the glueup alone. When I put it on the CNC, I must have bumped the bridge end of the body blank after setting the center line (I still don't know how it happened). So, the center line was out a heavy 1/4" at one end, and tapered to on center at the top. When I realized it, I felt ill...I'm sure Brett knows what I'm talking about.

Anyway, it sat for over a year, and I finally dusted it off to decide what to do. I got semi carried away with the fix, but it turned out OK, and thats the goal. I inserted a tapered wedge of crotch walnut that goes down to the first babinga pinstripe, then inlaid a similar scroll design that matches the neck inlay.

I guess what I'm saying is don't fix that "one of a kind" top with a plug that makes people ask: "what happened here". Go over the top and do something that in that area that makes people say "wow...that's pretty cool". Even if it means shelfing it for a while.
