Sunny Melbourne !
Hey - just a thought, maybe I don't use forums enough to know how to do this, but is there a way of searching profiles to find where people are in each country ?
I'd like to PM or email people in Aust to find out specific questions, rather than using the forums directly ?

I think you need to donate first

You know I understand the point is that you do the work yourself, but there may be another way...
I have a friend who uses a computer engraver, and we have had some amazing results for our Judo Club. We had our full club logo put on a wooden disc type key ring - probably about 1.5" accross, and the detail was so intricate and yet so perfect.
So would you consider using this method on a 2piece metal construction... so when you engrave through the black the silver shows ?
Hope that made sense...

I can understand how hard it must be to destroy something which you have created.
You know there is always some good that comes of these things...
Personally - I liked the way the "flame top" charred pattern looked... I might use that as a design cover one day !

Hi All,
Firstly I must say thanks to those who put up incredibly useful info on this forum. It's been a real help to a newbie like me.
I just wanted to share with you my idea for berating or constructive criticism ! One of the key things I got from you guys was to plan, plan and then do some planning. I can't tell you how many times I have redrawn this layout, but I suppose thats cheaper and easier than building and scrapping templates etc. The body and headstock are my own design.

I bought a new coping saw today from Bunnings ( ), and I hope to transfer these plans to MDF to use as templates in the future.
It's been a great day today... not only is it my 10 year wedding anniversary (so what is he doing on the computer at 11pm I hear you ask !), but I finished the design stage of my guitar. Which makes me think... I hear about you Uni / School students complaining about not having enough cash to do a build, just ask those married guys, and/or with kids - they'll tell you it's not easy either !
I'm planning on Les Paul Style Bridge and Tailpiece in chrome, 2 x Humbuckers with Chrome covers - haven't chosen which type yet, and chrome Telecaster Dome knobs - 2 x Volume (one for each of the humbuckers), 1 x Master Volume and one 3 way Switch (rather than a Strat style slider). Don't stress... I won't be using that printed version for the fret positions... I remembered about the misalignment of laser heads... I'll try and do one manually.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

Hi there Colin,
As I found out the answer to the very same question this morning, (and being a noob myself) I thought I might be able to share with you...
The Scale Length is the length from the nut to the bridge.
As for the second part of your question - I think you might be talking about fret lengths ? If so there are heaps of free fret calculators on the net... just google them.
Cheers.
Sealer Or Stain First?

Hiya,
I'm yet to build my first body as I'm off on hols for 3 months, but I did rebuild and restore an 8 seater solid timber dining table. Pity I don't have pic's on me, but basically it was a Malaysian medium density timber, not sure what type, and I rebuilt it with solid 150 x 150 furniture grade pine. After sanding down real fine, we stained with walnut stian with only 2 coats or so, then sealed it. When the sealer is dry, sanded that back just a little to get the roughness off the sealer, and this is the scary bit... the sealer turns an off white colour, thinking I had ruined it, but when I put the lacquer on it came up a treat. The more layers of lacquer you put on the more gloss you get. I put 3 coats on, so not much gloss at all, but the table looks unreal.
This has given me a lot more confidence for when I get to stain and seal my first guitar.
