  1. hi, i've re-made my guitar wiring and as i have it all open i think about trying out some mods, and the one that caught my eye was the Series/single/parallel switching on this site(http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/sw3.php).

the problem is that im not understanding the designations(a+/a-/b+/b-), this is suppose to be the wires coming from the humbucker but my pickup only has 3 wires, one white one red and other black!

    help needed :D

That schematic does not give you the full view so its a bit confusing, look at this site its so much better, keep in mind also some pups were not designed to be split three wire ones, others that are have 5 wires.

    diagram:

    look at another diagram all:

    hope this helps!

  2. You need an amp that rocks, two 12's are good very good but thats a loud amp too, unless you do two green backs at 30watts each and a master volume amp ...this all seems to be saying JCM800, something with a master volume though. For blues I have a real sweet spot for a Fender 5E7, but the JCM can do both.

This type of amp kit would have three preamp tubes and two EL34 power tubes, its a kit that may be hard to do for a first time out and its a 50watter, but with a master you should be ok. Here is something you could build or buy if you wanted a project:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...;Category=10171

  3. ....I know that I can build it, no doubt about that. But, is it cost effective when I can buy a Carvin head for $200 more?

Dude........people don't build guitars because its less expensive, they do it for the love of doing things for them selves same with amp builders. If this is not the case don't even bother, just buy an amp.

...I have played the MTS 3200 and I like the distortion and the fact that it is 50/100 adjustable. But I don't play life so this is to satisfy me.

Can any of this kits able to saturate at a lower level, or will I have to get a brake???

All the amps I build are 100% from scratch so I am not a expert on kits. What type of music are you playing?

This (saturation) is something I just broke ground on a year ago, with my mini jcm (prototype) basically its a low wattage amp with lots of gain at lower levels and is based on that circuit with a twist, you won't find a kit like that. I am presently working on a plexi jr and taking things I learned to the next level.

Any one can build anything but getting things 100% just right is not always easy, you can follow all the directions in the world and the amp can turn out doing some strange things.......there are some very powerful magnetic fields crossing paths with ultra sensitive inputs.

  4. Whats involved in setting the bias and the bias circuit? I want something that will take a lot of time, but at the same time i want it to be a completable project.

    Also, i thought the 5E7 is a 3x10" amp

It is, but not if you wan't a compact version....... :D

    LOL

  5. Do you have the 5E7?

what do you think i should go with for the cabinet cover, I'm thinkin' snakeskin, and black grill cloth, just because its unique.

also, how long do you think it'll take me to assemble it, and do you think i should do a small amp or pedal project before it to get me ready, if so, any suggestions?

Yes, I made a 5E7, here it is:

    http://www.dreamtone.org/5E7.htm

And I would do a 5E3 first, its also a very cool amp.

I take it you play blues? Right.... :D

  6. how is the 5E7 compared to a crate palomino 15w? thanks for your help

Not sure, I am not a fan of crate because of durability reasons. But I can say that I would rather have a Blues Jr. VS. this palomino.

But a 5E7 has some really sweat tone! Its much above both these amps, but I still think the Blues Jr is a nice amp too.

  7. Hi my friend blew my speaker.

He was playing a bass in it and it just hums no matter what i change. The guy at the guitar shop said its forsure the speaker ill have to replace it. He said its cheaper to do it myself and im good at soldering.

My amp is a Roland Cube60

I looked in the back of the speaker it says

    Roland

    W300RP 135-00F

    8(ohms) CHINA

    IST 2461

Its a 60watt amp. So if i get any speaker with those specifications it should sound the same? or should i get something better since im replacing the speaker.

    Thanks.

I would say it all depends on #1 you were happy with the tone, and how much a replacement one will cost. Also what speaker depends on what type of music you play. Check this place out http://www.avatarspeakers.com/

  8. Hey,

Im very interested in building a 5E7 from Weber (https://taweber.powweb.com/store/kits_50a.htm#5E7). thing is i have little experience with wiring electronics, but i do know how to solder decently. do you think that i will be able to complete this project with little experience with working with electronics? Also i am aware of the dangers of working with tube amps. could anyone show me so good links on how to stay safe when working with them

    Thanks

I would recommend doing a Champ or a 5E3, BUT the 5E7 is a great amp so thats doable also its not that its harder to do just a bit more work. You problably can do it IF you take your time, and stop to ask questions if you are not sure. Remember that the capacitors can and will hold a burst of 400V even if the amp is unplugged, so you need to safely drain them with a home made discharge tool before you go back in the chassis to do more work, and always probe an amp with your right hand only and with the left hand by your side, and never work with music head phones on. If you survive all this then you can see if the amp works.

    :D

  9. Guys and gals I need help. I have been searching the web looking for an article that was on guitarfrenzy.com and can not find it anywhere. The article is called "How to Build a Neck Jig". If anyone has a copy of it with pictures or can lead me to where I can download it I would be very appreciative. I found the archived page from Google but it does not display the pictures and only includes the first page of the article.

    Thanks in advance.

Post the link of what you have, so we can have a better idea of what we are looking for.

  10. Well, I am building a V and I am currently thinking about which pickups, I am thinking

    | |

    | |

    [Gibson P90] NECK

    [bill Lawrence L-500XL] BRIDGE

I play MUSE,Coheed & Cambria, Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Older Stuff (srv, acdc, jimi hendrix, led zepplin), Incubus, Motion City Soundtrack, Bullet for My Valentine.

    So what do yall think?

Well since you asked I would use either:

    ‘59 & JB Seymour Duncan

    or

Pearly Gates & CC Seymour Duncan

But defiantly standard full size pups

    :D

  11. hi, i have aquired some dwg files and have autoCAD 2007 they are all 1:1 but whenever i try to print them so the come out at 1:1 on multiple pages i only get the bottom left corner and then it stops printing, i need to know how to get the rest of the pages rather than just one part at 1:1

    help appreciated

    thanks in advance

    pandimebag9876 :D

Here are some steps you may need to do, make a set of line up marks in many locations like a 2" x 2" plus mark "+" this is for lining up multiple plots, then you can do a plot manager page set up for the size paper you are using save it with a name and set current, Then as mentioned above you use plot window to select all the different plot areas that you need based on your paper size and your plot scale is set 1:1. It also takes some practice printing with AutoCAD is never easy, though it has gotten a lot better. Also note even if you make a plot with a huge piece of paper, keep in mind moisture and climate can affect that sheet and it can expand or shrink .125" easy, so plot and use right away or check it in an x and y direction based on a pre determined lines on the drawing!

Look its all right here on page 750 :D

so there is no way to print it in one go u must do each page seperately??

    sorry im a bit confused

No, its not like a windows program. You have to do it all seperate, unless you go to a place that has a large plotter.

  12. Hi there,

I re-wired my Les Paul about 3 months ago and have JUSt noticed that i tone pot for the neck pick-up doesn't seem to work. I had to buy brand new pots and selector cos the old ones were knackered (didn't switch or volume). I KNOW the new pots work though cos when i turn the volume on both pickups down they work, and the tone pot on the bridge works, but the neck pick up just seems to sound muddy and when i turn the tone pot down there is just a SLIGHT change, nothing major. I've checked my wiring and there doesn't seem to be anything touching groung that shouldn't.

I have an Air Norton in the neck and Evo in the bridge. Its the same combo i have in my Ibanez, but the air norton in my Ibanez sounds MUCH better that this one. I think i'm just cinfused on the 4 pots thing.

    Cheers.

What values are you using for the capacitors on the tone pots? Did you buy a 500k Audio taper pot on that tone control? Double check the wiring this is a great link for this kind of stuff.
