It should be here any day now, so when I get it and assess the damage I will take some pics for you guys.

Even though this is a really old thread, I am now the new owner of this project. It needs some work, but nothing too difficult. I will be completing it the way Scott originally planned. Cleared with a black burst, with zebra dimarzios, gold hardware etc. Ill keep this thread up to date.

Honestly though, if he wasn't such a squid when he was "demoing" his invention then maybe he could be taken more seriously. But if your trying to be a Billy Mays wannabe with cheese ball lines, nobody is going to take you or your product seriously. Also if he offered some sound clips that weren't the definition of death metal "shred" then maybe we could hear this sustain for days thing he is talking about.

I would spray the sanding sealer after you stained the body. I wouldn't think that you will have any bleed through if you masked off where you didn't want the stain. Your best bet to avoiding that would be to apply light coats, so it doesn't completely saturate the wood.

You almost have to give this guy props for being able to sell this turd of an idea to Mighty Mite ... Which is now making all their stuff in the USA, hmmm ......

Like I said before, I held the things in my hands. The design is stupid, and you have to modify your guitar to use them. When you could slap some stainless dunlop 6100's and practically have the same thing without hacking up your neck. They are made in the USofA though *rolls eyes*

Believe it or not I used to work for the company that polished those frets...I HATED every minute of it pulling all 500 of those damn things out of the sweco. When I asked my boss what they were he said I should know because I build guitars. So I said these things are frets? I laughed and said how the hell do they put these things in the neck. I figured they were for an acoustic because how on earth would you radius them? Apparently I was wrong, however I still think the concept is stupid and why try to reinvent the wheel.

Do you have access to a spray gun? That will make it way easier to achieve the 2 finishes you want.

Unfortunately, that sounds just about right blink.gif . Have you contacted Bernie for an ETA yet? He gave me an ETA within 8 hours via email.

When did you order the body? I have a body and neck on order and was curious on your wait time. I am a returning customer, last time I just bought a body. It was a 2pc northern ash strat body, but the thing was so well bookmatched it looked like a 1 pc. Keep posting your progress I look forward to reading all about it.

I had this problem once, I bought a brand new "used" Floyd from eBay. The seller said he couldn't install it on his guitar. Whatever it was cheap so I got it. The problem was the block was installed backwards. So instead of the springs going into the block facing \ way and staying in they were sliding out because they were going into the block / way. I have a spare Floyd block I will sell if you need one.

I always just mixed up the color pigment and added it to my nitro clear to shoot the color coats...Never had any problems? Or maybe I am misunderstanding the question.

I agree with ae and keegan, The paint should be distressed and worn out. I also think aging the hardware would give it that "magic touch" too. I love the inlay too, very simple but so awesome at the same time. Cant wait to see it finished!

Came out really nicely! Good color, and I like the matte pickguard, it's a nice touch.

If I may, though. What makes this different from a regular Strat, save a hardware/pickup change?

Cost...I did this for my best friends dad(which doesn't know hes getting it). The original plan was to airbrush the body like the fuselage of an airplane but for one reason or another my friend changed his mind. I still think the outcome is pretty good although it looks like SRV's #1 with a maple neck.

Up close the pickguard is actually faux brushed aluminum.

I just got done finishing this guitar for a customer. Came out really good, I am just waiting for the neck to settle before I give it a setup.

Specs:

2 piece Northern Ash

1 piece 3a Flame maple neck

Wilkinson tremolo

Fender 57/62 reissue pickups (killer by the way)

Graphtech nut and string tree

Gotoh tuners

I personally use both triangle files and 3-1 fret file. I use the 3-1 file to get the fret close and use the triangle file to finish it off. Diamond files however wont leave near as many marks as the regular file would. If I had the money I would upgrade to the diamond files to save time and effort in polishing the frets. I spend more time with the sanding stick then I do actually leveling/crowning the frets.

When I put the binding on an Ibanez neck I am modifying we fixed it up in a jig and ran it through a tablesaw to take the .060 off each side.

It can be done...but its really tricky and super easy to screw up. The easiest way would be to swap the board with a new one and put the binding on before you attach it to the neck.

Meanwhile, the headstock will be repainted and re-logo-ed.

I had it painted before, but I just wasn't satisfied with the masking I had done of the logos, so.....

I had a local graphics/signmaking company make a new JEM logo sticker for me, and they did a great job! OK it cost me 5 bucks plus VAT, but it was worth it IMHO! I sourced an Ibanez logo on the 'Bay. (I have decided to keep this axe, so I have no qualms about the branding, or about telling everyone it's really a Chibanez!)

BTW, I should explain: I did have this guitar "completed" already. But with the bridge posts still being a probem, I just decided that I should get it right, hence the End Of Part One and onto Part Two scenario.

Also, one of the bridge saddles just will not keep a grip of the string, and since it's an awful bridge anyway it will be replaced.

I was genuinely amazed at how good the stock pickups are! Plenty of output, nice range of tones available.

So its like an Ibanez "s" series with a PRS body shape..I like it! Very cool build you got goin on there. Whats the paint scheme?

I think Rich was out of stock at the time of the gold edge pro so I got it from ebay.

I used original titebond to attach the board to the neck. Back when I got the trem (February) they were 350. A guy I work with is building a GMC and he bought a gold Lo-Pro the same time I got my edge pro and his was 260, so they obviously have come down in price. If I would have waited a few months I could have saved a hundred bucks eh? lol

Here is a project that has been underway since February. Its going to be a blue/purple/gray/white multicolor swirl. All gold hardware, with the "wiring harness" out of an 06 7vwh. The donor neck was from an RG2550. I removed the fretboard and put on a maple board that was cnc'd for the tree of life inlay. Due to some gluing issues there was a slight gap along the length of the fretboard. I decided to put a binding on it to hide that, funny thing is .060 into the side of the fretboard the glue seam was perfect with the neck... I want this to be a fancy looking guitar so I bound the fretboard with a pearloid binding.

Side note...why does a 6.00 binding cost 28.00 to ship?

Anyway, because the fretboard is mass produced there was some gaps inbetween the maple and the inlay. I was able to find an epoxy that hides the gap very very well. The inlay is blue pearl for the big leaves, white pearl for the small leaves, and a mirror gold stem. The fretwire is dunlop 6105, and I must say its my new favorite!

Anyone price up an edge pro? I had to lay down 350.00 for the damn thing and another 50.00 for the nut/string tree.

Sticking to the fancy guitar theme I put on a mirror gold pickguard what has the vine of life in it. Once the guitar is painted the blue, purple, etc will show through making it pop out. Rounding out the whole package is some gold barrel knobs with abalone caps.

I know its still in a rough form, but once its finally done and polished this thing is gonna be a looker!
