Thats not an airbrush job, just a thin plexiglass pickguard on top of the regular one, with the image sandwiched in between (customer request). You can change the pic in 10 minutes.

Sorry no back picture of the ash body.

There is no grain filler on the ash body, just layer upon layer of nitro a+ sanding. The pores are filled up with clear nitro.

After these three Strats from the earliy 80s there are two more to come.

The King strat in ash (3-piece), Duncan pu's, Schaller hardware.

Midnigt blue strat with alder body, Schaller pu and jap. brass hardware (not Schaller this time :-)

Sunburst strat in mahogany with drop top in flamed maple, body binding, black chrome Schaller hardware and Schaller Gold Hot Stuff pickups.

All my tops these days came from a German violin supplier, don't know if they still are in business, but I will try to track them down.

I found some info on a few wood that are found in Malaysia.

Figured Meranti - Shorea spp.

It is a very responsive wood and is exported as Philippine Mahogany. It yields a bright and sweet tone and it is quite a light wood, easy to work on. There are grouped generally into 3 varieties mainly the White , yellow or Red Meranti. The air-dry density is about 560 kg/m3.

Ambuaia - Pterocarpus Indiscus

Scented with beautiful aesthetic grain figures. 'Eyelets' are common with wavy grain in a wide range of golden brown to red color. Easy to work with and finishes well with oil or laquer. It gives a well- defined , warm and sweet tone. Very beautiful for everything.

Figured Nyato - sapotacae

A light hard wood with air-dry density of 400 - 1075 kg/m3 . Its grain ranges from straight streaky dark brown to a highly figured wave. It produces a wide range of warm and balanced tones. Easy to work with and finishes well with a smooth silky texture. Good for both acoustic and solid- body guitars.

I think walnut and maple will sound'great. Walnut is a great wood for stringed instruments with good acoustic properties, but there are a slight variation among the different species of walnut.

When you live in Sweden it's the best place to source the hardware.

Some more of the guitars I made, and some factory guitars (hanging out).

One SC during construction with solid paduak body and pickguard. Don't know about the trem., but the wheels are from Schaller. The pickups are Kent Armstrong with an amber see through finish. Remember it was quite heavy.

One SC with walnut body and neck, the hardware and pu's are from schaller.

Hanging out with some of the guitars from the custom workshop. There is one 62 Strat, one 58 Junior, and two LP:s (one reissue LP Standard 58 from the 70:s)

I got sick (not from the guitars) and had to take a break. Since then worked with computers and later the Internet. But I must do something with my hands soon, or I go nuts!!!

Hi Krizalid,

I think you stand a great chance of finding woods for your prject locally, because a lot of nice woods come from your part of the world (I know that Japanese Companies are logging in Malaysia).

Something with similar propertys as mahogany might be availably for the neck and body if you search around. Follow the advice from the previous posts for finding suitable woods.

I myself would love to go wood hunting in a Malaysian lumber yard.

Kind words for an old bloke. I will try to dig up some more.

But living in the past is no future, so I am planing to build a couple of new guitars. Since it was almost 20 years ago that I built my last guitar, I must start of with something basic to get back on track again. I have a couple of designs that I work on, but it has to wait until after x-mas when everything gets back to normal.

Two more scans on guitars from the late 70s - one real oddball.

The first is a TC in walnut with an internal stringbender working on the front strap button, press down and the pitch is raised. Schaller hardware and EMG pu's. The amp is a German made Vintage Amp (AAA-class). The body has not been finished.

A T-twelve made for Totte (reason for the T-shape) at the Swedish Pop Factory. Hardware from Ibanez / Schaller, 12-neck from Hagstrom, Ash body with a mazur birch top. The top looks like PDF board, but it isn't.

I think agathis is a made up trade name (for the music industry) for some cheapo, third grade wood. It would probably become pulp, if it wasn't for the japanese / korean guitar giants.

None of my books on world woods mention it in any way by that name.

It's Iceland, but I think they have picked it up from some french site.
