While I'll never argue the usefulness of those tools, couldn't you find the same thing at your local hardware store?

I don't know why, but I seem to remember seeing those fret cutters in the tiling section.

Forgetting about the money that you save, wouldn't it be a lot better to guy buy them directly and save shipping time?

In the end it was nothing more than a grounding problem. A wire came loose but was still held down by another wire so I didn't notice it until I started checking each joint. Thanks to everyone for helping!

Thanks for the great ideas. There is no corrosion on the strings and flipping them made no difference. I have several tone caps floating around, I'll try replacing mine as soon as I have time.

I have nothing nice to say about Zachary guitars so I won't say anything at all, but I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. Not only did you provide a very entertaining read but I learned quite a bit and figured out many ways to improve my own designs. I'd hardly consider any of this a waste of time.

So I've got a pair of EMG 85's in my RG770, standard volume/tone/3way. They've been simply amazing for the past couple of years, but lately they've developed a rather strange problem. The volume on my high E, and only my high E, is considerably lower than the volume of the other strings. Checked the guitar itself over and over, no fretting out or any other problems of the like and the high E sounds normal when the guitar is unplugged. Battery is fine as well, replaced it just in case but it did nothing. I even emailed EMG and the tech was stumped.

I guess my next step is to replace the wiring, but I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this or has had a similar experience before I spend money on the new pots, switch and jack.

Ebay is spectacular for exposure but it's true that you won't make much money. I refinished a strat once with comic books, not a perfect job but it was my first such project and still looked amazing. I don't have a website and didn't want to wait forever to sell it so Ebay was my choice. I didn't get much in terms of money, but by the time it closed the auction had something like 1900 hits and a few people contacted me to ask me about custom orders.

I have this Floyd Rose sitting around and I'm trying to figure out who made it. The logo looks so familier but I can't quite put my finger on it. any help would be much appreciated.
