  1. I have experience only with the Ghost; I really like it. The instructions are very clear, easy to put everything together. And if you ever decide you want to go MIDI, they sell a piggy-back circuit board that plugs directly into the Acoustiphonic PCB without rewiring (except the additional 13-pin output jack).

Thanks, from what I've been hearing from other places it's starting to sound like the ghost system is the best one out there. Right then... I'm off to find some UK prices :D

  2. Hi,

I'm thinking about fitting a piezo tune-o-matic bridge to my BC Rich NJ Classic. The 2 bridges that seem to be mentioned most are the GraphTech Ghost & the Fishman Powerbridge. Which one is the best? Or is there any others out there that beat these two?

    Cheers,

    :D

  3. Hi,

I've just replaced the 5 way switch in a friend's Squire Strat Affinity. The original switch had started crapping out like the cheap switches do.

I bought one of the Oak switches off WD & followed this wiring diagram off the Fender site.

Right then... now on to my problem. The selector works in all positions & selects the correct pickup(s), but there a click & the sound drops out for a fraction of a second whilst switching.

I must have done something daft because I just tried using the volume pot & that also as a slight noise when turning it & the sound also drops out for a fraction

Any thoughts? I'm sure it's something obvious.. But I thought I best check before I take it to bits again.

    Cheers,

    Simon

  4. "center (Centre in Canada!) detent" is the most commonly used term.

Make sure your replacement pots are the right value. Active EMGs tend to use 25K pots if I remember correctly-- it should be stamped right on your old pots.

Thanks GregP. Centre is 'centre' over here in England too. :D The pickups are just the stock active 5 string single coils that came with the bass. I'll check the pots tonight. It'll be nice to play it without the scratchy/crackly sound of the pots or outputjack.

  5. I've decided, due to having a lot of free time at the moment to fix up an old Maison 5 string bass I have. It's active & has some pots that kinda click in to position at half way around. Does anyone know what this are called so I know what I'm looking for so I can buy some new ones.

    Cheers,

    Simon

  6. The thing I like about the PAF Pro is that it sounds really good through layers of effects and processing--and just going straight into the amp. The D-Sonic is also good for drop tuning and doesn't get flabby, stays nice and tight with a helping of power into the preamp on that JCM 800.

Edit: I was also thinking--you might check out Bare Knuckle Pickups considering you're in the UK and they might be a better deal for you than importing the DiMarzios. Some of the UK guys here swear by 'em, especially the Miracle Man and Warpig. Not having ever played or heard a guitar with them, I can't tell you whether they're great myself, but I'd encourage you to check 'em out nonetheless from what I've heard about 'em.

    Hi Crafty,

Thanks for the pointer towards Bare Knuckles. I've been on thier website. I've had a look at the War Pig. That's one metal looking pickup :D Canny pricey too at £115 each ($222 at current exchange rates). Just on trying to some clips of it in action that aren't 100 mile an hour Slayertastic riff-o-rarma's :D But hey. You only live once & it's certainly worth investing in. Going to check the Miracle Man out now.

    Cheers,

    Simon

  7. Hi there,

I'm thinking about changing the stock pickups in my BC Rich Mockingbird (NJ Classic Series through neck) guitar. I play rythym (and a little bit of lead) in a rock band that tune to B E A D F# B (11-58's strings). I use a Marshall JCM800 head through a homemade 2x12" cab loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's & I use a Boss GT-6 multi FX pedal.

You can hear examples of my band's music here.

What do you guys recomend? I've heard that the Kent Armstrong Motherbucker may be a good option for the bridge position...

    Cheers,

    Simon

(Appologies if that was too much information there)
