Marko
OK, so that is my question. I'm just about to install the binding to the body but I don't know how to mask it to protect it from paint. Should I do that somehow (and how? ) or should I paint the body first and then install the binding? In that case, wouldn't the glue ruin the paint near the binding area? Many thanks! Marko
Well, I could, but it seems to me that it's hard to mask the narrow curvy binding stripe. Is it usually done that way?
Dr. Jabsco
They make smaller (width wise), higher qualtie masking tape thats quite thick for doing speicialty trim work, or whatever your doing.
Morben Guitars
We just had this conversation!! Search for recent posts on Binding. But to quickly answer your question.. 1.) install binding 2.) scrape/sand to be flush with guitar 3.) spray a clear sealer coat or two 4.) mask the binding on the side of the guitar (use high quality 3M Painters tape or pinstriping tape from an auto store.) 5.) Spray your black finish 6.) remove tape 7.) using a razor and your thumb as a depth guide, scrape the black off the top side of the binding. (the clear coat will prevent staining of the binding.) Now apply your clear coat over both binding and body.
