Need help starting my first guitar

Recommended Posts

I am going to begin building a guitar and want to double check exactly what I need. I am making it with an alder body with a tamo veneer, a birdseye maple neck, an ebony fretboard, a floyd rose tremolo, sperzel locking tuners, two Di Marzio Evolution humbuckers, clear pickguard and cavity covers and dunlop strap locks. I need to know what tools I will need at the minimum. I also need someone to check that I am buying the right supplies and that I am not missing anything.

Howdy,

Before running off and buying anything, I would get the book "Making Your Own Electric Guitar" by Hiscock. Run, don't walk, to the nearest store where the book is in stock.

Also, check out many of the forums that projectguitar.com can refer you to.

I agree with Ed,

Take it easy, buy books, do your research and plan everything... planning IS everything.

Prepare to make mistakes... many mistakes.

I just finished my first guitar and although it isn't prefect, I'd never been able to make such a fine instrument without the planning.

The best tip I can give you is to concentrate 100% on thing at a time.
