It should sound very good. It is so soft that you'll need to be more careful with it then, say, maple. It will also be much, much easier to carve the top then most any other wood.

Many people use cedar as a top on acoustics; it smells very nice of course. Softer than spruce.

You're brave to try an archtop as your first guitar; if you can pull it off, then every other guitar you build will seem easy by comparison.

Not to dissuade...but I've built 4 solid bodies and done many repairs, and I still don't think I'm quite ready for the hard part of my own (partially started) archtop project.

i helped a guy with a couple of tops and backs, so i feel ok doing that. (i hope)

the neck will be the hard part, i think.

i try to play alittle too, i hope that will help with the feel part of it....lol

i guess thats why i'm here, hope to look for tips, and a shoulder to cry on....hhehehehehehe
