ibreakemineedtobuildem
I was wondering what file you guys like to use to crown your frets. I was using a borrowed one from a friend. His was just a quarter round file he found.I guess I should bite the bullet and buy one. Southpa
I bought the regular steel crowning file from StewMac, don't like it so I went back to my trusty triangular file. I seem to have more control with that one. However, I've heard that the "diamond" fret files are great, only takes a few swipes to put a crown on a fret. But a little too expensive for me. mj_gant
I own one of those pricey diamond files from stewmac. The curved one that is 300 grit. I don't like it. It doesn't give the profile needed for some common fret sizes. IMO. Seems to work well with skinny strat fret style. I too use a trianular file. unclej
i've bought the stewmac steel crowning file (large/medium combo) and have been using it for several years. i guess i've just gotten used to it 'cause it works fine for me. i can take shallow string grooves out very quickly with the large side and then crown the fret with the medium side. buff the fret out and you're done.
