Ragasguitars
Been wondering if anyone here has ever used any specific moisture meters or if any of them are even worth getting. Someone mentioned on an earlier post that cheap ones aren't any good. I live in southeast Louisiana and the outside humidity is quite often 80% and higher and I really need something precise to make sure this is not affecting my wood too much. So far I have been lucky. Any other advice on maintaining a stable environment will also be appreciated.
Saber
I use the Planet Waves meter in my acoustic guitar case because the air in my home gets pretty dry during the cold canadian winter.
bigdguitars
very worth while, like every other tool you only get what you pay for. As long as lumber is stacked in a climated controlled environment you should be fine, if you are storing wood outside watch out....
orgmorg
Are you talking about moisture meters for lumber, or a humidity indicator? Both are good things to have.
Ragasguitars
talking about both, wondering if some of the ones I have found for under 50 bucks are any good or if there are some awesome ones out there that are worth the price that I should know about. orgmorg
I haven't seen any lumber moisture meters under $50 that I would consider buying. I got the Lignomat mini-ligno E/C, about $130, I think. It was the cheapest one I found that I felt would be reliable enough. Their website is www.lignomat.com. Delmhorst is another good brand. Hygrometers ( humidity indicators ) can be had cheaper, and still work ok.
