Question About Bearing Bits

All right, as long as haven't found a bearing bit yet, I'm wondering --

Isn't a bearing bit just a set containing a bearing matched with the diameter of the bit itself?

So I should be able to pick up a set of bearings to match the different size bits I use, right? And then I'll need a lock collar or a teflon sleeve to lock it down.

Maybe I"ll have better luck finding bearing then --I have the feeling I saw them at the local hardware store.

if you're talking about straight bits then yes, the bearing is the same diameter at the cutter..but there are round over bits, roman ogee bits, and many others that have a bearing much smaller than the cutting surface..and in many cases the bearings will only fit the bits made by a certain manufacturer. i've had trouble in the past finding replacement bearings for off brand bit's that i've purchased.

did that help at all?
