68 lost souls Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 (edited) Hi, I picked up a broken 12string for 20euro in a local shop yesterday. The headstock is broken off and it has no saddle, bridge pins, or tuners. I have a few questions. First, is there any particular type of tuners I need what with it being a twelve string, I've never worked with an acoustic so I don't know if electric tuners will fit on it. Would these be ok? http://www.luthimate.fr/product_info.php?products_id=578 Secondly, the saddle. What should I be looking for? Are they standard between 6 and 12 strings or what? Thirdly, there's no way the headstock will be saveable, there are splinners all over it and bits missing. It also cracked right through a tuner hole. Will this be the best way to fix it? http://europa.spaceports.com/%7Efishbake/broken/broke.htm Thanks. PS I'll try and get pictures up soon Edited February 5, 2006 by 68 lost souls Quote
68 lost souls Posted February 10, 2006 Author Report Posted February 10, 2006 OK I got some photos up, as you can see its a pretty complex brake and wont just sit back in place if I where to just glue it straight back on. http://photobucket.com/albums/e196/68_lost_souls/ Any help would be appreciated. Mr Alex Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 www.frets.com has maybe 5 or 6 demonstrations of headstock regluing, a couple are mandolin, so it could take some time to dig them out of the index, but they are there, and have plenty of photos. By memory you will need a large collection of clamps, and looking at your photo, I'm not sure it will work, you'll have to fill the missing pieces. My local shop used to mix up epoxy and just coat it up. But I really dont like that method. And being a 12 string, with the extra tension, this might be a case of new neck, or trash it. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Mr Alex Quote
Martinedwards Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 what have you got to loose? Epoxy. all the clamps you can get. check spacing for the tuners, standard MIGHT fit ok Standard saddle will be fine. you should get a plastic one for a Euro or so, a bone one for 2 or 3. Quote
