When you get it, you get it from him, you can evaluate that, and then decide whether it's the bridge/tailpiece investment. So I found this link that gives a good amount of history and evaluation, as well as a documented restoration of a Regal Archtop in bad condition: Link Looks cool though. Elderly Instrument's store also has one that needs neck and fret work, and it's still $500... so I think free would be a GREAT deal. Especially since I'm a sucker for archtop elegance.
