Bass Neck Pocket

ok everyone just a few questions how deep do I need to rout the neck pocket for a set neck bass.Also is it possible to have a set neck without it being angled.

1) As deep as you want to, and deep enough (there's no hard numbers here, but at least an inch is good).

2) it is. But Draw the thing out, full size, to scale, side view. Nobody can answer 'what neck angle do I need' questions without either doing the math, or drawing it out. This is explained clearly in any good book on the subject (Melvyn Hiscock's 'Make Your Own Electric Guitar'), and there's a pinned subject on calculating neck angle done by Perry which is most excellent.
