Masina Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 How do you get really good joints for two piece bodies and such? do you use a router? power jointer? jointer plane? just wondering because there must be a better way than what I'm doing. Quote
Mattia Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Regular ol #5 1/2 plane here, for a long time, now I use a big wooden Joniter plane. Works wonderfully well. Wouldn't say no to a jointer if I had a large shop to put one in, but frankly, for the number of guitars I build per year, a handplane is cost-effective, quiet, and a pleasure to use once sharpened up properly. Last couple of bodies (African Mahogany 2-piecers) took me about 15 minutes each to joint from a roughsawn edge to perfect dead-on joint, and that was partly because I was still working out how my shiny new jointer plane's blade adjustment mechanism worked. Router works too. Quote
