fyb Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 I found a few nice pieces of curly French walnut that I want to use as a top and back for a semi-hollow. How does French walnut compare to the walnut we typically find here in the US? Also for clarification, when you go to the mill and buy something just labelled 'walnut', what type is it usually? Thanks for the help!! Quote
fryovanni Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 Most Walnut on the market in the US is Black Wanut. Some like Claro grow in a limited range(and are generally more rare. French walnut is a little less common. There are even hybrids of English/Claro that are even more rare yet. Each is a little different. All are suitable for necks and bodies(generally speaking of course, as there is always an exception to the rule). Peace,Rich Quote
Mattia Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 What Rich Said. French (or english, or european, same stuff, Juglans Regia) is very nice stuff. But so is Claro. And so is Black. Quote
