CainMD
I've been working on this for a little while now. I got a Ibanez RG 270 DX for a 100 bucks in the ghetto and decided to fix her up. i took the paint off by first trying stripper which didnt work so i just sanded it off. Then sanded down the heel and cut out the monkey grip. I then burned the edges and added some blood splatter. I just clear coated it and am waiting for it to cure to wet sand and buff. Let me know what you think of it so far. I got Dimarzio Evolution Steve Vai Pickups and am adding a black mirror pickguard. it will be cured hopefully a month from now and will add pics of it all together around then. Original (not mine but looks exactly the same, except mine was really beat up): http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c...-rg270dx-bk.jpg Beginning: http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c..._1129081620.jpg http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c...=1203082117.jpg Grip/Heel/Burn: http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c...=1228081324.jpg http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c...=1231080836.jpg Paint/Clear coat not sanded or buffed: http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c...nt=IMG_0483.jpg http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c...nt=IMG_0484.jpg http://s481.photobucket.com/albums/rr176/c...nt=IMG_0485.jpg First Project, Be easy and honest. kpcrash
I am easy, that's why I have so many kids . Honestly, doesn't look too bad - little leftovers on the monkey grip there - maybe that was intentional? Ibanez tends to use polyester finishes which are hell to remove. I've actually had pretty good success cleaning them with airline stripper (nasty stuff) and paint removal pads by 3M (like a heavy scrubby pad for doing dishes). anderekel
I like the idea, I'm assuming burned and blood, but I think you went about it a bit wrong. With an idea like that you really gotta go all out, needed to be burned more, and I think the blood needs to be a bit finer splatter or some smeared finger prints or something, just my thoughts though I do like it overall
