shad peters
topic pretty much says it all, i recently procured a duplicarver setup and i am trying to figure what type of bit I should use. I was planning to use just a plain 1/2 straight bit since that is my guide diameter. I was thinking that a triple fluted bit would probably be best, but other than that is there any particular style or brand of bit that works best? I'll be cutting some pretty heavily figured stuff and want to do what i can to avoid tear out.
Kammo1
You will need a cutter that matches your stylus or follower and preferably a bull nose cutter "NOT" a normal flat endmill cutter. I have different styluses on mine from 1/4 right up to 1 inch bullnose bits and it can do everything possible in the construction and carving of a guitar, hope this helps
shad peters
Yupp that helps quite a bit.. but I assume that you mean a round nose bit and not a bull nose bit, I dont think a bull nose would be much good on a duplicarver... Did you machine your stylus yourself? If so any tips would be appreciated cause I will likely be doing it myself. i do have access to a metal lathe, mill, and quite a few other metal working tools if there is a really precise way to do it. Kammo1
Yep made the styluses myself with some correct diameter steel and a hand file LOL!Yes round nose cutters should do the trick
