pochun_leung Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 I recently want to make a Spruce back & side acoustic guitar. Did any brothers here did it? When deal with spruce B&C, what are the key points that we need to pay attention to? Really Really thanks~ Quote
dpm99 Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 Spruce is a soft wood, and backs and sides are usually made from hard woods. I believe it can be done though. You'll need thick braces, for sure. I suppose my question would be why you might want to do something so experimental for a first build. Mahogany's not that expensive. Quote
Juntunen Guitars Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 You will definately need thick braces which could make it loose its volume a little. Are you using a spruce top with it? I would also run some small bracing strips up the sides too. You may also need to make them thicker than normal sides and backs but I agree with dpm99, you might want to start with mahogany. Quote
