I am looking for some advise on how to repair this crack. I know how to fill it in with putty... I need something that will prevent this from cracking more than it already is. Also if this helps, The finish around the crack is gone, and it feels hollow around the crack. Thanks-Scott Picture

picture doesn't work dude, any crack is best fixed with a good wood glue though, inject as much as you can into the crack with a hypodermic needle, and clamp it together good and tight overnight. Make sure the joint is cleaned as best as possible, if you need to, you can thin the glue a bit too, just make sure to completely fill the crack and when you clamp you want squeeze out.
