  1. I know that they are used in guitars. So I don't think they will kill the tone I think the opposite is true. If you can tighten the neck down more there should be better transfer of energy from the neck to the body. The only concern I have is if guitar makers use a longer insert. The new Yngwie Malmsteen Strat uses a machine screw mounting system. This guy wants 90 dollars !!!!!! for the inserts and neck plate. http://www.vintique.com/www.vintique.com/neckkits.html YEA! That's all those are. The Stainless Steel inserts are only ~$4 each from McMaster Carr and the plate you can get elsewhere for ~$20 Maximum. And the screws are ~$1 each. You could do the same thing for ~$40 maximum. $90!?! Total Rip off!
  2. I have a neck that needs to be installed. My question is about the bolts. I want to use brass inserts and install them onto the neck itself. That way I can use machine screws that thread into the neck through the inserts and not directly into the neck with wood screws. Does anyone see a problem using inserts like this one? Will using inserts kill tone or anything else?
  3. There is no particular problem in the shape and size. In relation to the weight the main problem is that if the body is too light the headstock tends to fall down and the guitar will not be balanced. This is the reason why we put in the middle of the body a wood block. In other words I think that the body you have in mind can be made of fiber carbon without any particular problem IM me and we can talk about prices and such. Thanks
  4. Capu, I have an idea for a project body. It is my own design. It looks like a cross between a Gibson Explorer and a Jackson Randy Rhodes. My main concern is strength. It needs to be very strong since the shape is "pointy" and thin in many areas. Also concerned about weight, I don't want a 10-15 lbs guitar hanging on me. Can you do a carbon fiber guitar in any shape and size?
  5. I have a JEM body made of Swamp Ash. And I need the paint stripped and then swirled. I was thinking a mainly dark brown (to match the rosewood fretboard), white (little streaks), metallic copper and metallic yellow gold swirl. I want the body and head stock to look like marble stone. Can anyone do this for me and do a good job? And quote me a cost. You can message me the price if you not want the world to see.
  6. Classy??? No offense, but I think that thing looks like it could have been part of the mechanism for the first flushing toilet. I would agree. That looks bad (not in a good way). I hope you were joking.
  7. You can do away with tuning machines? Don't you need these? What would you put in it's place? Confused. I had a Blond moment. i understand what you mean. Duh!
  8. You can do away with tuning machines? Don't you need these? What would you put in it's place? Confused.
  9. Doesn't the FR speedloader use special strings? And are you then "gouged" on the price for these strings? Or are they similar in price?
  10. Your making me rethink that NO ZR rule. Hmmm I don't know. Floyd or ZR. Hmmmm Pros & cons anyone?
  11. With this being said. Does anyone feel that Ibanezes Zero Resistance tremolo is a good quality trem?
  12. I guess. It's been my experience (not in guitars) that quality should be closely controlled. And if you sub stuff out to the lowest bidder (ie. overseas) the quality could drop considerably. You may say, "But the high end Ibanezes are made in Japan". But in Ibanezes case they can control the quality on there high end instruments. I feel that Ibanezes made in Korea or Indonesia are lacking in quality. At least that's what I've seen and heard. Not from this sight, just from general asking questions to many guitar makers.
  13. Just asking. I know I asked this in a previous thread. But it got buried. I want to know if it's any good. Thanks
  14. I heard that the Zero Resistance (cool design and concept) did go out of tune. I heard that the Floyd Rose models do the best at keeping in tune. Also I heard that the ZR from Ibanez is manufactured in Korea, and the quality is low. That's why I started this thread. I wanted to know what everyone thought about what tremolo is the best in there opinion.
  15. Thanks Xanthus, as well as everyone else. Thanks for the input. I'm going to go for this config. Neck: Evolution Neck (DP158) Middle: HS-3 (DP117) Bridge: Evo 2 Bridge (DP215)
  16. Just getting an idea for a project. I've used Ibanez trems before. And I love them. But what do you love to use? And Why do you love it?
  17. Reading up on everyone's advice I have made a diction (sort of). I don't know which config I'm going to use. But they will be one of two configs of DiMarzio: Neck: Breed (DP165) or PAF Pro (DP151) Middle: HS-2 (DP116) or HS-3 (DP117) Bridge: Super Distortion (DP100) OR Neck: Evolution Neck (DP158) Middle: HS-2 (DP116) or HS-3 (DP117) Bridge: Evo 2 Bridge (DP215) Which config would you use? Keep in mind that I want that cool Steve Vai Sound. Since it is a JEM body.
  18. Thanks for the advice guys. Really appreciate it. :D
  19. You guys are the experts, so I thought I should ask you some advice. And I was not disapointed to say the least. Thanks everyone for there replys and advice. Keep them comming.
  20. Mostly 80's Metal. I am a 37 year old head bagger. I grew up listning to Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, & S.O.D. And my idols are Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, & Eddie Van Halen. So I am looking for this kind of sound. Good highs and Mid.
  21. I was looking to get DiMarzio's (DiMarzio Breed (Neck), SDS-1 (Middle) & Super Distortion (Bridge)), but i'm not real sure. I think this would be a nice config with this amp. Also I wanted to use a high output amp for Live performances. What do ya'll think about that configuration?
  22. I do not care the cost, what pickups do you feel are the "Best of the Best"? I play rock and metal, fast and slow. Looking to find what sounds the best for great harmonics and a clear signal. I can distort at the far end when needed. And I could have a good clear signal for solos and rhythm work. Let me first say what configurations and guitar details. I am building a custom Ibanez JEM with a new Prestige RG 24 fret neck. The body will be made of Swamp Ash and the Pickups will be the Ibanez standard config of Humbucker-Single-Humbucker (2-1-2). (Edited) I will be looking at amps soon. But I would probably buy a Marshall AVT275X combo amp for practice. So with that being said what pickups would you use? P.S. has anyone ever used Q-tuner pickups? Has anyone ever used Bare Knuckle Pickups? Are DiMarzio pickups worth it? What about Seymour Duncan? What about EMG? Again looking for the "Best of the Best" in your opinion. Thanks :o) ROCK ON!!!
