Looks amazing man - even better than it did on your phone in Rimmers *Hopes he has the right guy, or I will look stupid*

Well its finished (bar a pickup....If anyone has an EMG 85 for sale, mail me). Its SO SO pink and I love it the clear coat isnt totally shiny - sorta satin, looks real cool. For some reason it looks "patchy" on the pic, but it isnt, its totally perfect coverage....
Dont think I did too bad

Nice bit of wood

Another interesting Idea I was throwing about for amplification for 8 strings was to use a pair of pickups (one for the low 4 strings, and one for the higher 4) then taking the signals from each of those and sending one into a bass pod, and one into a normal pod... Just something i thought about doing
-
I didnt think no battery = no sound? I know there internal pre-amp runs off of 9v, but they do also output in passive when the battery runs out, there just real quiet.
-
The easiest way to test your setup is to detune one of your other guitar (preferably a 7 stringer) to the note that will be the lowest on your 8 string - or just plug in a bass . As for pickups the most viable option is cirtainly EMG's. There extended bass series is perfect for the job. Seymour duncan will also make you 8 string pickups (they do it for conklin) and they come to about $200 each. Lundgren pickups are also well known for there 8 stringers (custom ordered of course) and these are the only ones that i know of that have pole pieces, this company make 8 string pickups for Nevborn guitars, which meshuggah play.

Thats real real nice man. How much did the kit set you back?
-
Ive done it before - not really reccomended but it does work.

Lol, you guys make me laugh!

happy birthday man

It is the curvature of the face of the fretboard. Look at a guitar, you will see the fretboard is not flat, but is slighly convex. The 12" or 16" refers to the radius of this curve (if it were a 12" radius, the curve of the fretboard would be a "section" or a circle, of radius 12")

Mahog would be cool yeah, but a bit bassy i think. I origionally planned to use mahogany but I am currently re-considering moving onto something a bit clearer like alder perhaps...maybe even go the whole hog and go to maple *bright*
As for the EMGs, yeah, all EMGs are blade style pickups, and none of them have pole-pieces. For standard string spacing and 8 strings a 707 is too narrow, the 5 string bass pickup is closer, but to be on the safe side I am going for the 6 string version (the "45" housing - 4.5" long ). If you choose the 40, or 45 DC you will in effect have a nice big emg 85; as thats all they are, guts from an 85 in a biiig box.
Hrrm, well all the places I have mentioned up to now have been emg (www.emgpickups.com) LGM guitars (www.lgmguitars.com) and hipshot (www.hipshotproducts.com) . There about the only manufacturers I am using, i think. If you have any more questions fire em my way, Ive been researching this project for a good few months so the chances are, I will know the answer

Not my kinda guitar but I like it...real nice wood
-
U got any pics of the mod? I might have to get a floyd on my 8 string
-
There was...hipshot actually make a production 8 string fixed bridge now
-
I dont really know about the nuts, as no one has ever actually employed hipshot to make an 8 string trem; its just something they COULD do. Im not having a trem on the 8 string, but am still going for locking tuners, I just prefer the stability. Allthough I suppose making an 8 string locking nut wouldn't be hard as its just a case of splicing a couple of modified 6 string ones together - definatly do-able.
As for the cost of mine, Im going for a few swish items such as a quilted board and a flash inlay, but its coming to around the $2000 mark.
-
My 8 string is in the process of beeing built by jeremy at LGM, and I have been doing alot of research into parts available. I know from a friend that hipshot will make a custom 8 string trem for around the $250-$300 mark (US). Give the a mail, they might well be able to help

Lookin real good man. I love the stripe at the scarf joint - really cool idea!

Me either - did it yesterday on my kramer

Ive not been able to spray for AGES because its been so cold. however Ive worked out a way to do it and I am finishing off the undercoat layers today. Ill take some photos once Ive done and post em...

Thanks for the suggestions At the moment the guitar body it resting on an upturned mousemat, and the neck is supported by a block of wood shaped to fit.

Installed the workbench in my room last week, its really useful just for minor repairs/restrings/electronics etc... and it doesnt take up too much room
Also, I got me a nice charvel (cream coloured one on the wall) a steal for £170 i thought

I like the idea brian. Just a case of making sure the laminates are the correct thickness to looks right when radiused. If they were too thick you would just end up with a stripe, i suppose. Also, you would get a cool wavey line between the woods which would look ace
Glue lines may be a problem, perhaps...
Get testing...

I love my dremel. MMMMMM. Also, i dig my 5-in-1, you probably don't know what it is, but it's a carpenters handtools thats a scraper, a roller brush cleaner. and three other things in one. I use the scraper side to pry, and cleaning out fretslots and stuff.
Oh yeah, and my jig saw. screw band saws, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE MY JIGSAW!!!!!!!I use it to cut headstock shapes, the neck shape, it would work for bodies. I just have this intense bond wioth my jig saw. I can cut perfectly straight lines, or follow a line (curved even) perfectly with this puppy.
Yep yep.
John
What jigsaw you got man?
finally finished my custom airbrushed guitar!!
