Squier Fat Strat Standard series Hohner "The Jack" Headless bass (its a hand me down, i did`nt buy it!) a new cheap classical guitar(jade i think) a 37 year old classical that im refinishing at the moment(someone thought it`d be funny to paint it like the cover of "the stone roses". Bass rig: Trace Elliot AH300 SMC (300W) 2xpeavey eurosys bass bins, one speaker replaced with celestion speaker(sounds very nice) MArshall G15rcd guitar practice amp Vox Escort 50 bass (busted) Peavey 230w basss head (kinda turned itself into ashes one day) JEL 2x12 cab (never used it much cos its too damn heavy) i think thats it... heres a pic of most of it..... and yes my bedroom is very untidy! http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~daveyj/mygear.jpg sorry pic is very large!

  4. hi there, in a book i have they give load sof info on gibson serial numbers , and boy are they messed up! they went through a few different nembering systems! from 1953 to 1960 it was a 5-digit number ink-stamped to the back of the headstock, in 1955 they added a digit, in1961 ,they became stamped into the wood, and the serial numbers became very haphazard! in `75 they implemented a simpler scheme, 8-digits the first two being the year code: , eg 99=1975, 00=1976, 06=1977 ... hmm i see the logic there! these numbers were now a decal including the writing"made in usa" in`77 they changed it again... 8digits, stamped, 1st and 5th digit gave the year, eg; 93291369 = 1991 if you tell me the first digit i may be able to help because i have the listings in a book in front of me , i cant type it up here , because it would take years!. rock

  6. hi ppl , im new here as you can guess , so go easy on me im making my first instrument . a 4-string fender style bass. im using a strat for my body template and made the neck to similar specification as my hohner "the jack" bass. ( no its not gonna be headless!) ive made a test neck out of an old fireplace mantlepiece which looked like mahogany ... until i planed it! , damn stain!. The actual neck will be made of mahogany(yes real mahogany this time!) of which i have a lot! what i would like to know is, what wood is it made of? could it infact be used instead of the mahogany? i have uploaded pics of the neck to: http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~daveyj/ the wood seems very light , it can get very rough when working against the grain , having said that it is very smooth at the moment. opinions? should i forget about it , and use mahogany? or is it worth a try? thanks john.
