nope i havent picked a color, but I'm thinking probably transparent with a figured wood beneath... red would look really nice, but i already have a red guitar... but it couldnt hurt to have 2

Ok. Thank you all for your help. I just have to get on the computer and do a CAD drawing of the basics and then draw my shape around that. Here is what I have for now, but I will get accurate pickups, bridge, string spacing, etc. on the computer and post that once I get around to it.

Alright, so this is back to the fender-style with a few modifications to the back and upper horn. all comments are welcome

I agree with going back to the fender-style lower horn. ill play around with that version and see if anything improves

Here is draft 8 with a waist (or an attempt at one). Should the pointy horn have stayed or is it better gone?

yeah the pointy does look a little out of place... it was my next idea after a strat-style horn

Ok. So here are two new shapes. They both fixed the headstock (removed completely) and the neck pocket. the joint is now at the 17th fret. The first also changed the horn, and the second drifts away from the BC look. Still got ways to go, but your ideas are very helpful

would the mist coats of shellac require a spray gun? i have the shellac but no way to spray it. maybe I can find a laser printer at someone's work

...there's not much of a waist, which gives it a formless feel...

That was actually one of the things I wasn't sure about. The first design started with the two waist curves moved apart. That may have been where it all went wrong...

did you cut the template by hand? and that might make letters like O a little difficult, but that definitely sounds cool

I did draw the strings out, and theres a small dot where the tie would have to be, but I dont like the headstock design and I'll most likely end up with a new one

do you use computer software for the design or do you usually draw them? and also (sorry if i seem inquisitive) do you cut all the inlays and rout the channels by hand?

I made a few body designs and I was wondering if they were

a ) Practical (pickup location, neck joint strength, strap button location, etc.)

b ) Good-looking

c ) Not copying a previous shape (I think they are original designs but maybe someone's seen something exactly like this)

There are two bottom cut shapes and two horns but the basic idea is the same.

I'm just looking for constructive feedback on the design. Anything I can fix to make it better. Thanks.

yes. as long as your bridge will be placed somewhere that looks right. you wouldnt want to have to put it right at the bottom of the body to accommodate your scale length. it shouldnt really be a problem as long as you get the neck in the pocket

your inlay work is very inspiring. that must have been a lot of work
