Well, think about it for a sec.
You've got to modify the nut for a Floyd nut (read: there's no shelf/space for a shelf). Headstock will need some serious mods.
You're trying to route a straight pocket on a carved top. How's that going to be accurate? Gotta make a jig.
You gotta make new holes for the Floyd studs.
You need to cover up the holes from the tailpiece, because if I'm correct, the Floyd route won't cover all 4 holes for bridge and tailpiece.
You need to route a humongous-ass hole in the back of the VERY thick guitar for the claw and springs. (note: the arched LP top won't rest flat for your router)
And after all that, it's probably going to need to be painted again.
It CAN be done, though. If you plan to build a Floyd in it from the very start. Otherwise there's a whole buncha problems that need tacklin'.
PS. I did my own research on this, too, and came up with nothing. Leads me to believe that this job isn't done all that often.
PPS. Too late now, but posting this in a different section might yield you more answers. I don't generally venture down here all that often myself.
well i knew that routing was required but the arch in the guitar i have actually isnt that arched, like theres barely any to it so i think it may work better.
but ill call in my dad with this one too (hes pretty much a woodworking expert) so the routing shouldnt be TOO big of a problem
and i planned on repainting it anyway....

would the mist coats of shellac require a spray gun? i have the shellac but no way to spray it. maybe I can find a laser printer at someone's work
I used a rattle-can. Now that I think about a bit, I had to buy a whole package of the transparency stuff, which was a bit costly considering what I needed it for. You're probably better off taking your design to Kinko's or your local equivalent on a disc and having them print it on a laser printer. It would save you having to shell out for a whole package of stuff that may or may not work for you.
thats very true... its extra stuff that really drives guitar building prices up!

sure no problem. good luck with all of it. oh btw, how are you going to do the logo? i was thinking of doing one but the only PG tutorial on logos requires a laser printer
You can get transparency film that works with inkjet printers. It's pretty thick, though, and takes a lot of clear to build up over it. If you use it you have to be careful to keep the ink from running (a few mist coats of shellac did it for me, plus I was careful not to move it around once it was on), and (as always) try it on scrap first.
true, but you said they were thick and im not sure if i want that much clear coat....

No i have a whole bunch of names. you can use that one.
well thanks man!
and if i get the trem in (which is apparently a hard route job ) ill post pics!
I am sure you will make the proper templates for the route job and place the templates correctly, and I am sure you have your height issues under control(TOM to Floyd, neck andgle and what not). Keep us updated!
Peace,Rich
i was kinda hoping to just adjust the current routes cause the bridge and lock line up fine so im not perfectly sure what ill do about that... im still in the planning stages!

did you cut the template by hand? and that might make letters like O a little difficult, but that definitely sounds cool
no... for the O i used a router, and the other letters i used a mounted jigsaw

i thought about using that method (but id have to go to the kinkos down the street for the laser printer)
but if i decide not to do that, i did it once on a past guitar where i made a cutout template of the logo and used a wood burning torch then a little bit of lacquer and it looked really nice! but im not positive yet...

then replacing the stock pickups with:
DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion Pickup - bridge
DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup - neck
and putting in a floyd rose tremolo i have....
it needs a name for my custom headstock i want to make for it
