  1. Yep, What Erik said. depending on how strong you want the carve, 1/2"-3/4" will do the job. The 1/2" sometimes can get a bit thin if you carve strong, 3/4" would allow you to maintain 1/4" and get a good strong carve(and account for a bit of surfacing).

    Peace,Rich

sorry for being in the wrong forum, i just click post new topic whenever i see it. i will be more careful now.

    thanks for the replies tho

  2. I saw your original reply and thought a pretty similar thing. :D Not sure there's THAT much need for apologies considering how incomprehensible the post and the question are. :D

well im SORRY that you couldn't understand my post. i'm looking for someone that taught me how to build my first guitar and wanted his input on my preexisting project hence, in progress.

and if it wasn't your name and you couldn't understand it then why waste your time with my post?

    (rhetorical)

  3. i live in Canada, and stewmac won't ship mahogany to me doorstop. and they have a one piece body blank of primavera.....hmmmmmm......interesting.

they say it is musically similar to mahogany, but i would like to know if people have been happy with the woods results. it says guitars in the 80's used this wood, but 80's and guitar don't usually match up.

please give me some sort of insight.....

  4. I'm starting my second guitar and me neck is going to be a set neck. the problem is that the man who taught me how to build, is unable to get in touch with him. he would tell me carbon fiber is as hard as a **** brick house! but most modern guitars are going with the dual action truss rods.

    the question/topic:

what, in your opinion, is best for necks; carbon fiber, single action truss rod, dual action....or any other truss rod.

    please, discuss...

I actually just stopped in to acknowledge the cool Pink Floyd quote...

But as far as your question: A dual action truss rod is probably sufficient if the wood you're using for the neck is reasonably stable. Add a couple carbon fiber rods if you're paranoid; it can't hurt.

the neck will be mahogany with a rosewood board-no inlays what so ever.

  6. i was flipping thru a guitar mag and i saw an ad for some metal players signature guitar; MBM1

i really like the bridges ibanez uses....my question is

    can you buy ibanez bridges?

i like their bridge style, i dont care about if they are good, i want to get one-without buying a guitar(so don't get cheeky!)-so i can make my own for my next guitar project

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. most of the mods on the page i showed change the way the wah pedal sounds, because not all wahs sound the same. I.e the vocal mod changes a resistor to make the wah effect more vocal. The gain bass and midrange mods affect the amount of gain bass and mids in the wah effect. The volume mod gives an increase in volume when the wah is activated. swapping inductors can have a big effect on the sound because not all inductors are created equal and they are responsoble for a lot of the wah sound.

They are not shown on the page i linked to but other common mods would be to have switches and pots added to the pedal to control some of those things i just mentioned.

The other common mod is to convert a wah so it is 'true bypass'. On some efects pedals your sound signal travels all the way through the pedal even when the pedal is turned off - obviously this may colour the sound a bit. Converting to true bypass means that the signal bypasses the wah circuitry all together when the pedal is turned off and you get your natural tone at the other end

to mod your wah just means changing it from how it left the factory - be that adding things, improving things or just tweaking it to a sound you prefer

thank you that was the exact answer i was looking for!

  8. That could mean anything you want. Short for "modification" and that includes anything from spraying it purple to soldering in volume / tone controls.

explain-the volume one-would it be a boost or just a volumecontrol when the wah is on-or can it be that the pedal, when off becomes a volume pedal like the morley peds.

does modding them usually mean to boost the pedals ability or just add things on

  9. i'm starting my second guitar project-if anyone wants a post of pics ask, i'm proud of her-but for my next one i was thinking of a thru neck-but on project guitar the featured guitar has a long neck pocket. i've heard gibson used to use this design

    WHICH ONE IS BETTER?
