  1. also for a more throaty distortion remove one of the 4007 diodes

Or, if you want a tube amplifier sound, get rid of all four of the infernal things! :D

very true.. but one of the things that gives it that sound is the diodes. it doesnt' sound the same wihtout them... not better or worse just different..

of course i think most people (not all) have a hard time distiguishing between tubes and ss. i know of one circuit.. that would blow your gourd but i donbt' hvae it on the computer only on paper. i foudn a rough version of it on the net. it uses a mosfet and a jfet to act like a tube.. and all at highvoltages. i gutted a dead 12ax7 and plugged it into my marshall i had at the time. and everyone wanted to know what i had done to make it scream and sound so creamy.. i laughed i told them i retubed it..

which in a sense i did... lol

  2. looking at the scheme replace the capacitor on what is it the cathode. end... lol i never learned the terms i just know how it works. anyway replace the .1cap with like at least a 1mfd if it isn mislabeled and already a 1mfd then change it to a 10uf or so.. this will help with the freq shaping which since bass freq use more energy therefore you will have to use the gain to to drive a broader freq range. you can raise the 1k upt to 2.7k and even decrease the 100k to around 75k. and thiss will help.

  3. :D ROFLMAO....................

TOO FUNNY i wasn't expecting this...

i am actually working on something pretty niffty.. using three bbd's all set at different delay rates and wiht slight feedback into eachothers signal path. but its still up in the air. of course if i could find smt bbd's on sample then i would try to do that.. i could probaly fit it into a space the size of a hlaf dollar maybee??????

  4. I have thought about it, but I think the idea of individual pickups for each saddle is the most desirable method. I can't think of a way to do this.

Any suggestions would be taken to heart. :D

you can actually manipulate the little ceramic or pot metal pieces that hold the string in place. you can make little pieces that will slide in there it is best to use a small little piece of steel on top of that. i can draw a diagram i fyou want.. it won't be completely inidividual but it will pretty darn close.. .

  5. hmm question. when did the dimarzio x2n become ceramic. i have an old one like from early 80's and one from the late 90's and both are alnico magnets. but i checked out the other sites and i checked a new one and its ceramic.. what gives??????

its stamped alnico btw and it looks compleetley different from the other x2n i have looked at

  6. is it hard to build a wah-wah?

depends on your knowledge of electronics your soldering skills and if you want to make buy a board or use perf.. personally i say no it isn't hard at all but then again i also have a magic 500mh wah inductor that most people cream over.

anyone wnating to build pedals should check out

    diystompboxes.com

they are very nice there also

  7. i did a knob tutoria..(text only ) on the diy forum. i will see if i can find it and email it to bryan as my geocities site bandwidth is always over loaded. i am in the process of making some wah gears for a guy and i will be offering them to anyone who wants them at cost.

some ideas if you want to make your own knobs.. they make these great little 30day pill dividers at the dollar tree and they are big enough to use as molds for different knobs..

  8. i had really sensitive pickups on the piezo equiped one.. and yes you can use the piezo speakers with the drive from a 386 on max setting to get it to feedback.. it depends on a few factors one of them in the fact is how microphonic the pickups are.. if it doens't work with the piezeo then you may have to use a samll speaker.. this isnt' an exaxc science. more of an expirament. i konw what works for me.

  9. hey love craft. they make a magnafying glass that clamps on your desk and doubles as a light for around 60 bucks. new. at shields electronics

its the same one i use for my crap.. lol......... i do regular sized chips and compenents smt style on rgular boards. i found out the hard way when i ddint' mirror one day and have never drilled since then

  10. i am not sure on what the switches weigh. but more than likely if you got two. i could get the switches and ship it too you for like 15 bucks.

12bucks for switches and three for shipping.

as far as how i manage that.. trade secret heh heh heh.. nah JJ i have a friend who ordered bulk some time ago, and i did soem work for his distributor and now i can get them cheapp to and nto have to order as much.

also thats the blue carlings for six. the TPDT the DPDT are cheaper. just let me know.

anyone here who wants some can piggy back too. just dro p me an email

  11. using a quad opamp you could make two sets of filters one set per pickup.. assuming you have two pickups.. other wise you could do more or less.

split the range of the instrument between highs and lows on the guitar range.. ie split 4th fret F# on the D string to be the highest note allowed on the low side .. and G to be the lowest note allowed on the high side.

this woudl allow you to process with an eq style activity each half of the guitar per pickup too. and also control the output of the two halves of the freqency range with a slide potentiometer.

alternatively.. you could also make them out of phase with each other to make them defined more. a guitarist in a metal band i saw in florida approached me about making her seven string stand out more compared to her lespaul.

i looked at the freqrange of her LP and tried to match the peaks and valleys with the sevenstring.. on top of that we decided to go with the half phase idea mentioned above in a box she could turn on and off. similar in theory to using two tubes like an ab pushpull style circuit in a tube amp one for negative phase and one for positive.

we took it a step further and added the high and low balance and seperation in there. the current idea i am workign on was to have 90 degrees of phase seperation between bands.. so i could have my 40hz-180hz split and my 180hz-440hz split and then have everything above it split also at 90 degrees phase. still workign on that one though.. but the former works like a charm.

it will proablly be the second or third pedal released. this spring

  12. how much gain do you want.. when you go active.. the bass and treble controls do you want them to share the active passive split.. so when active they act as selective bands instead of simple low pass or high pass filters.

i can draw up somethign for ya.. but i need to know how much output the pickups would have. other wise it could distort.. of course i can also put in interanl trimmers in the scheme.

most systmes go up to 10db boost availble when active.. is this satisfactory.

    .

email me and i will try to draw up soemthign when i get home.
